Re: Best post-race food?
The Old Mill Race in Ancaster gets my vote...since it's put on by the restaurant the food is amazing. Lasagna, corn on the cob, caesar salad and homemade ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Yummy! *It's been 9 years since I did this race so it's possible it doesn't exist anymore :( It was a good time!

Re: Calgary Marathon 5/27
Here's an article about the race: http://life.nationalpost.com/2012/05/23/history-of-calgary-marathon/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I have ran with Jason a few times. He was our coach in Honolulu (2004), and is an amazing guy. He finished 9th or 10th, then ran back and forth along...

I LOVE Marianne! It is such a beautiful name!
Of course I'm completely curious what the alternate was but am coming up with nothing that I can think of prettier than Marianne...in fact Pollyanna is all I can think of

Re: Sucre a la creme (sugar cream fudge)
Batch #1 is cooling right now. My teeth ache from simply eating the bits left in the pot! So delicious! Yay! Let me know how it turns out! I want to remind people that it is important to not mix more than 5 mins with the hand blender or it will be too hard. It is amazing! I'm going to make a couple...

Re: Gluten Free "treats"
Meringes! Yes! Rice Krispies, you have to buy the GF version because the Kellogg's version has barley malt in it so it is out. Dr. S Sugar Cream Fudge would be a great one! Peanut Butter Cookies (CinC says these are like crack) 1 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup white sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla extract jam ...

Re: Personal Trainers?
@Farmgirlinthecity - You have to do hills, yet you know you can do squats, lunges, and more importantly hill repeats. I bet you could cut off 7 min from your PR again just by yourself. It's causation - while the PT was the one that helped motivate you to work out, you still cut 7 min off your time ...

Re: Personal Trainers?
I'll put a vote in for a personal trainer. My trainer is also a runner. She worked with me all through my pregnancy and got me going again afterwards. She knows my running goals and is very good at peaking my training at the right times. We have done sessions in my house and I've done "homework...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...
I haven't fallen, but my right calf is still giving me grief and cramps whenever I try to run. I can't remember the name of the muscle, but it has 3 words, and attaches to the tibia at the top and the ankle at the bottom. When I run, it turns into a lovely tight little ball of pain. Going slower do...

Body part conversation:
G: how do babies get out of their mommy's tummy?
Me: brief but correct explanation
G: So it's kind of like a slide then?
Me: sort of buddy

I am so jealous of all the moms who have toddlers with words! Today, John shoved away his breakfast, and didn't want any of the food I offered, nor did he want down. He just kept crying and shaking his head. Turns out he wanted a hug. G was a signer more than a talker. He had about 10 words on his ...

Taking our new jogging stroller out for a run for the first time today. We got the MEC jogging stroller/bike trailer. Yes, we went cheap. We'll see if that was a mistake! We enjoy our MEC one, it's huge to deal with in the car though so it just stays set up in the garage! Super smooth and easy to p...

Re: Putting a bike helmet on a toddler?
We just told my son tough luck - no riding your trike/bike without it. We made sure it was loose enough that it wasn't pinching, and we're very careful doing it up that we don't pinch him. He grumbled the first one or two times, then he just resigned himself to it and never noticed it again. We did...

Oh, and I just wanted to add something of an observation. A mom I met today has two kids, and the young one is 4 weeks, the older one is just turning 2. She was talking about how "easy" it is, how her older one is great, etc etc, and I was feeling like a bad mommy since it is NOT easy for...
