Re: Everyone must be resting this Monday!

Ran 30 minutes in the trails and improved my distance by about 500 meters. The hardest part I find about being a runner is having the ability to rein myself in. I get moving, and it's like being a kid again. I just want to go faster and faster, pushing myself until my lungs are going to burst out of...

I'm back... thanks to the Wii

Been doing the running on Wii Fit and finally went for a run on the road. Trying out this forefoot running thing. Went about 1 K in the end. Start slow... Sure was running slow. Anyone else who's starting again trying the forefoot running style instead of the classic heel-toe? If so, how did it work...

Re: starting again... again... again... and this time I mean it.

And the next day my knee told me that wasn't a very good idea, so back to just walking for now. Good thing is my NEW doctor has booked me into both an MRI and a scope to see what the actual problem is in there, since my OLD doctor just kept telling me "Rest and Painkillers, oh and do you need m...

starting again... again... again... and this time I mean it.

I did it, finally after 11.5 months I laced up the shoes and got back out the door. Don't know why but I just had a huge running craving this morning. Did a quick little loop on the trails near my house, took about 20 minutes or so. Amazed at how good I felt. All the cycle commuting and the 300+ sta...

Re: Starting again, and dragging family along with me.

We wound up skipping a day on our week 2, as it was a repeat week after we had a setback halfway through last week. That sounded stupid, lets just say we repeated a week, but jumped ahead a day. We did 1:30/1:30/3:00/3:00 X2 Walk/Run. It was great, with Susan going all out the last 20 seconds of the...

Re: Starting again, and dragging family along with me.

We've been set back a week due to sickness, but we're still battling through. We did 6 repeats of 1:30 run/ 2:00 walk. Susan (wife) had a hard time today, as she's been sick, and just got over it. She muscled through it though, and finished strong. I've havn't been so proud of her since our son was ...

Re: Starting again, and dragging family along with me.

I too am beginning again after restarts! I have yet to get my husband back on board though.....good for you!!! Do you want the plan I'm using? My wife is finding it challenging, but fun. She's never been an excerciser, not even liking to go for walks, so it's very beginner friendly. Run day tomorro...

Re: Starting again, and dragging family along with me.

We did 6 repeats of 1:30 run 2:00 walk, covering 2.24k, not counting warm up and cool down walking. It was hard for her but we got through it. We've even found a local (250 K away) 5k that we're going to sign up for since our training program ends on that day.

Starting again, and dragging family along with me.

So, I feel after two years off, with multiple restarts, that it was time to do it properly. In the past I've always gone out and ran a pace that I can hold over 4 -5 k, even after along time off. Of course my knee starts to hurt, and I wind up taking a big chunk of time off again. This time I've tal...

Same with me. I was amazed that I was keeping up with traffic and not even pedeling hard, just a nice slow cadence... it was quite a differance from the Mtn Bike and having to churn like crazy to keep up.

Re: She's finally mine.

Slipstream, I like that... It suits her. I took her out for her first non-test ride today. She's going to take some getting used too, as she's my first road bike. Those skinny tires respond fast.

It took a few months, but she's finally mine. What shall I name her? Should have mentioned that the pain comes when i'm sitting/lying down. I don't get much of anything when I'm up and walking around.

Re: How to know when you're done.

Started off with 3k X 3 a week with 5/1's and was up to 3k/3k/5k at the end of almost 4 weeks, not 3 weeks like I said before.

How to know when you're done.

How do you know when you're done running and your body just won't do it anymore? I hurt my knee back at the bluenose/cabot trail in 2008, waited a year and a half to heal before I started running again. Started off slow, only got into it for just over 3 weeks, doing 10 runs, and now I'm having knee ...

Re: Soft Neoprene Knee brace.

I'm not 100% sure what I suffer from as I don't have a sports physician to go to, but from reading articles I think it's itbs. My G.P. thinks I've torn cartlidge and it's tendrils are "floating loose and get caught in the joint from time to time. I imagine it could be this, but wouldn't he have...

Soft Neoprene Knee brace.

Does anyone use one of those soft knee braces just as a preventitive measure? I'm just wondering if it could possibly be a cheap fix that would help me prevent another knee injury.

been a while... need a new log site

It's been a while since I ran consistantly, but looking to get back into it after two runs this week with no pain. I used to use the running log at coolrunning.com, but they've merged with some other website and totally redid the log page, and I'm not happy with the new layout so I'm looking for som...
