Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Hi folks, Just thought I'd pop in, say hello. I was actually starting to figure out a way to fit running into my life as a ft working parent but then got sidelined with a broken arm last week. I'M hoping it heals on the quicker side of the spectrums but there is still a possibility of surgery ... So...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Interesting idea Irongirl, maybe I'll have to try this next year. I'm assuming it won't be observed in our house this year but I'm using it as a kick I need to start getting up at 5am. It's back to work on Monday :( . Where the heck did the last year go? Goodluck to all of you with your little ones....

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Wow! These last few posts are exactly what I've been thinking about these last few weeks. I am going back to work soon and am worried about finding some resemblance to a balance. I can see it being a challenge but my one thought is to stick to shorter distances and try a run commute home a few times...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Cute baby story: My guy is on his way to crawling. He's scooting right now and only backwards but he often ends up doing the plank when he's trying to figure it out what to do with his legs. My running is going, well enough that I signed up for the Army half marathon, now I just need to create some ...

Re: Jogging stroller

If you're going to use your stroller exclusively for running I would go with the Bob Ironman. It has 3 - 16 inch wheels and the front wheel is always fixed. I know some people don't like this but I find it is much smoother and easier to steer b/c of the larger wheels. Inclines are also easier to han...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I just came back from picking up my race kit for NCM - 10k for me, and no shopping either as I was wearing my little guy in the ergo and he was sound asleep the entire time. Coincidentially I was hoping to get a new sports bra, I guess it wasn't meant to be. My biggest worry about the race is how he...

Congrats pts on the new addition to your family. It won't be long until there are a couple more announcements. I hope all of you HRM who have recently returned to work are adjusting well. I can't believe how fast time goes. I just put a bunch of too small clothing away today that used to be way to b...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Thanks everyone for the stroller advice. I will definitely have to save for one. Andes - here is my experience with my running comeback. I was able to run using run/walk intervals until I was about 30 weeks pregnant. I even ran a hm at 16 weeks (my slowest one ever but it was a lot of fun just to be...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I'm waiting for my dh to get home so I can get out for a run. I'm thinking I'll do 6km. It's my longest run yet but I'm so happy that my fitness level is coming back this quickly. I was pretty active during my pregnancy, and then sidelined only to walking for a good 8 weeks. I'm also perusing the in...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I got my first post pregnancy run in this morning. I briefly considered bailing due to the mild snowstorm we seem to be getting. I had already arranged for someone to watch the little man so I didn't want to put it off. The run was short and slow. I did 3km with intervals of running 5 minutes, walki...

Thanks for the welcome and the advice Yesterday's attempt at a bottle was unsuccessful too. He did take one without any problems (the first one), but since then it's been a no go. Daddy has always been the one to give it to him and I just want him to learn how to take it so that my husband and I can...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

I am just waiting on the okay from my doctor to start running as my baby is almost 6 weeks old now. I can't wait as it feels like forever even though I was running up until 32 weeks, then I felt like it was time to stop and I did a lot of walking instead. I ended up having a c-section due to a true ...

Re: Great deals at Costco on the Garmin 305...

The 305 doesn't say exactly how much battery life is lest, but there are the 4 bars at the bottom when you look at the screen with the history and setting that give you a good indication of how much time is left. If you're doing a long run (at least 90 minutes) you should have 2 bars at a minimum.

Are your have your pace smoothing settings the same? This will affect the pace graphs as well as the current pace setting displayed on your screen while running.

I choose soy milk over cow's milk when I do my grocery shopping. Have you ever tried or considered rice milk/drink? It is definitely the underdog in alternatives to cow's milk and avoids many controversies of soy products. I gave up milk about a year ago when I was speaking to a woman at the local ...

The easiest way that I've found to make coucous is to boil the water, pour it into a glass measuring cup, add the couscous give it a stir and cover it with a paper towel. Let it sit for a few minutes (I think it's 5 minutes) fluff with a fork and serve.

Thanks everyone. I've been running 10 km races for several years now and have decided to take the plunge into longer distances. I've always carried my own water, as I have a fuel belt, and rarely rely on water stations at races. I'm also going to be running the National Capital Half Marathon in Otta...

Sports Drink and Gels

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and relatively new to distance running, so the topic may have already been covered, but at what distance do you start taking gels and sports drinks? Do you start them both at the same time or do you wait until your runs are over a certain length of time? I'm starti...
