Re: Boston Marathon -- New Cap Perhaps ??

I think Boston 2015 will be another tough year to get in. For 2014 there were say 5,000 or so that got the entry since they didn't finish last year. Then there were say 6,000 more due to the deisre to be there. So with typcial 25,000 or so about 11,000 extra this year. Keep in mind that the time cut...

Boston by the Numbers

Often we don't pause to consider the magnitude of the planning and infrastructure behind the scenes. Here are some indicators for Boston Source: http://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/event-information/by-the-numbers.aspx As I read the list, little stats had me thinking... wow ..600 sheets plywood...

Thanks for the input. Apparently he did it 3 weeks ago, and the bruising had almost gone away within a week. Then, he was fine to run on it, but the pain has returned in the last couple of days so he has rested and iced it. He plans to rest again today and go out for a run tomorrow to see how it fe...

Re: Sportstats/Timing question

Somewhat related...,. are the interval times gun or chip? I recall one time checking my split time in a race (not this one) against what was posted on the site (Sportstats or some other I don't recall) and it was not what I had on my watch but was pretty close to watch plus difference between gun an...

Re: Birthday present for runner

A simple idea. A mouse pad with a memorable photo. Lots of places do them. Might consider a photo that woudl be of you/your family with him at the end of a race that he has completed. It can be motivating since a mouse pad is usally ihn use quite a bit (I never could get used to using a touch pad ) ...

Re: Runners with Pacemakers

I'm ok, but I will be getting checked out. My resting HR keep dropping and I'm getting some skipped beats. I used to be pretty steady with resting rate of 44 but it is trending down to about 38-40 and sometimes dips to 30-32. While that might be ok if I was in tip top shape from training, I'm not ri...

Do any of you have any experience with a pacemaker? Any runners you know that have one? Implications, stories good bad or otherwise?

Sold, what does that mean? I'll bet the Canadians get squeezed on the exchange rate. The credit card exchange surcharge is a bit less than 3% for each transaction. So if you buy they add the 3 and when you get a credit they deduct 3 so about 6% charge. I've had this happen in US stores at the checko...

Well done Lisa, should give you lots of confidence going forward.
Nice that you didn't get caught with the train (I'll bet there were 3000 of us by the time it finally passed), would be shame to spoil your PB if you got it

I am envious of those who can put 20-30K. I am stuck back at about 14-16 and still running on empty after that,
Oh well, its a long road back (literally)

Last time I hit 2:30 at ATB (2011) I wasn't finished yet !

However a review of my signiture line shows that in 2008 I was 1:42 at the chilly half and 2.31 at ATB, same figures as Doonst

Awesome, and from what I see in the pics, despite the heat your are dry man, how'd that happen? Half of an everest climb is huge. How does Sulphur compare to other courses? I found that start/end hill to be too much for me to climb, but I only have Run for Toad to compare as I'm not familiar with ot...

Great results everyone. I did a 1 lap as the relay and was suffer'n from the heat, don't know how you are able to run for hours. I did have the benefit of a few beer and other fluids later on to hydrate. Then decided to run a few more miles since we dont have any hills here. Got 2 miles in, did a do...

Susan, sounds like quite a day. I have the same problem of light headedness after stopping so I can relate. In you case you already fully stressed from 26 miles so it can add up quickly. Glad you made it through withou the exra trip to the hospital.

Re: Finish Line crowd for 3rd Wave finishers- Boston

A general observation is that is easier for you to find a specators, (provided you know where to look) than it is for them to find you--too many people going by and you have an unknown arrival time at any point unless they have live tracking and they are near one of 5km increments. So the the words ...
