Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
Hi, So, I saw in here somewhere that rear wheel disc covers can be had for about $100 ish - that's a lot cheaper than a 'real' full disc rear wheel. Screw them in place, and they mimic the preformance of the disc wheel. The ones I saw were specific to the brand of wheel you're putting them on. Quest...

replacing tires + tubes
Hi, The Vittoria Rubino Pro's that came on my Cervelo 3.5 years ago have about 5000K on them, and have (I think) started to crack along the sidewalls. They still hold air pressure fine, but I think the time has come. How often do y'all replace tires? Replace tubes as well at same time, or wait for t...

Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
I was thinking to compare the rolling performance or resistance.
I didn't realize there was difference in rolling resistance between various tires and tubes. I thought the only difference was that 'race' tires would be lighter.
Cheers,

Re: Buying your performance on the bike!!
OK, last question (for now, hahaha),
I have tried to compare the Conti GP4000S with what they put on my Zipp 404's - Michelin Pro 3 Race - no luck - any thoughts?
Again, thanks.

Re: Buying a Bike - part deus...
What I meant, really, was - buying a bike part deux... but anyway... So I borrowed my son's road bike and did a couple of rides that I often do. Wu wei is absolutely correct. The TT was faster by far - to the tune of 16 minutes over 50 K with roughly equivalent effort. Here's the next question - has...

Buying a Bike - part deus...
Hi, I saw the thread ' buying a bike' but this will be slightly different... I have a Tri bike, and after 3 years I think the time may have come to buy a road bike. Sigh. As was pointed out on the other thread, the tri bike was made to go straight and fast. It has been suggested to me by a bike fitt...

Re: Peterborough Sprint Tri - how much vertical?
Got it.
I didn't think it could be horrible when I saw that guys in my age group (55-59) were averaging way over 30 KPH. Sigh.
It seems I'm always saying...."where do these people come from?".....
Thanks Jono

Peterborough Sprint Tri - how much vertical?
Hi,
Has anyone done the Peterborough Sprint Tri with a GPS and have a readout of how much vertical the course has?
Thanks in advance,
Tony

Looking for Boxing Day sales...
Hi, Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays to all, I managed to convince the better half that a new set of aero wheels would be a very good idea, and she agreed that Boxing Day / Week would be a good time to get 'em.... With the proviso that I better be 'present and accounted for' when we entertain on the...

I'm an hour north of Toronto, and work at the airport.
I will post a 'wanted to buy' ad - thanks for the idea.
I've cruised through the Mania Classifieds a few times, though not the BC site... $550 is getting into my range !!! yikes, who knew...

Re: tri bike question
Thanks Wu Wei,
If I could do this for $500, I'd be happy, maybe I better start working on my 'working around the house' skills, so as to gain favor with La Wife.... Does $500 eliminate the aluminum rims with carbon fairings?
Any hints on where I would start looking?
Thanks again,
Tony

Re: tri bike question
OK, so.... Deeper AND lighter would be ideal for a wheelset. Let's say that a carbon wheelset is out of the question due to money (or lack thereof), so, aluminum it is.... Will it be deeper, or lighter? Deeper is the goal, up to the 'limit' where crosswind handling becomes a factor - I'm thinking 50...

OK, so... aero rims, the deeper the better (is the presta valve stem length the limiting factor)? aero helmet... ummm is that the ones with the 10 inch (or so) tail on them? Might look a little out of place on an old age group wanna be.... Ever seen any numbers as to what an aero helmet (or rims for...

tri bike question
Hello all, Any bike guru's hang out here that might be able to answer a wheel set question? I'm riding a 2 year old Cervelo P2SL which came with Shimano WH R500 wheels. I understand that these are entry level wheels. I just rode the bike to my 1st podium finish (age group - at 58 I'm no threat to th...

Re: Clipless pedals and cleats
So... Went out for 60K today in the Caledon hills. Wind was northwest at 40 gusting to 50 KPH - I shoulda been windsurfing - but I digress... I moved 1 cleat backwards about 2 mm, and wore a significantly thinner pair of socks. Actually polypropylene sock liners. re the numbness, both feet were far ...

Re: Clipless pedals and cleats
As of now, the cleats are located slightly in front of the balls of the feet.
I will try moving them back 1 or 2 mm at a time and report back.
Cheers.

Hi, I saw in this thread a reference to I recurring problem I get on longer rides (50K and longer). Shorter rides - no problem. Numb feet and toes from the balls of the feet forward. The poster indicated that shims were the fix. Anyone else with a fix? I can + do wiggle my toes periodically. I am re...

Re: Duathlon Pacing Question
And while I'm at it... Clipless shoes & pedals vs running shoes & cages for a sprint tri - for 20K is it worth the extra time in T2 to go clipless. I can pedal full circle in the cages.... (p.s. I have converted to clipless for longer distances including my 1st 1/2 iron earlier this year, th...

Re: Duathlon Pacing Question
Not to hijack this thread, but, How would this apply to the swim segment of a triathlon? I've read that as a triathlete, my job is to get out of the water with the lowest possible heart rate. I could expend huge amounts of energy in the swim, only to gain a minimal amount of time, due to the physics...

Re: 1/2 Tri, bottle exchange, how does that work
Thanks folks,
Great briefing.
Yes, I am planning Welland (have registered).
If I plan to skip the 1st exchange, I presume I would bear left (assuming the station is on the right), slow up somewhat to be careful, hold my line, and cruise on by -correct?
Thanks again folks,
Tony

1/2 Tri, bottle exchange, how does that work
Hi there,
My 1st 1/2 coming up. and I see there are 2 bottle exchanges in it for the bike segment.
Never done that before, please tell me what I need to know, "etiquette", what to do, what not to do, anything you can think of that I would need to know.
Thank you very much,
Tony

tri race bike heart rate strategy?
Hello again, Has anyone seen a list of suggested heart rates as a % of max, or % of anaerobic threshold, for the bike segment of different length Tri's? Obviously you could go much harder for a Sprint vs Oly, Half or Full... Half is my focus for now, the rest would be good to know for later. As alwa...

clipless vs cages
Hello again, I'm looking for input as I consider changing from runners and cages to clipless shoes for my tri future. I understand the concept of pedaling full circle, i.e. pulling up as well as pushing down on the pedal. Realistically, I figure I pedal full circle probably 2% of a typical ride of 4...

Re: Shoulder Pain in Aero Position?
Thanks for the thoughts.
Anyone care to recommend a fitter in the Toronto area?
I'm just north and west of the city.
I figure better to go with a recommendation than pick one blindly.
Thanks again,
Tony
