Re: Bingerunner's Barefoot Half-Marathon

Steve, that is amazing. How long does it take to build up enough callous/toughness to your feet to do this? Isn't heat a factor? I am just so in awe... wow. And so fast! Well done my friend! Pretty much exactly what went through my mind - how long did it take you to build that up? Congratulations! ...

Re: Bingerunner's Barefoot Half-Marathon

Wow that's an awesome time Steve! Congratulations. My feet hurt just reading this. P.s. Those "walking already" people that you passed in mile 1- weren't they Running Room 10-and-1-ers? I did see a running group around me, but we can tell who has gone out to fast and not seeded or paced t...

Bingerunner's Barefoot Half-Marathon

I had set a goal of running the Manitoba Half-Marathon barefoot in 2010, but on a short 4 km run 3 weeks out on a hot June day I had a blistering (literally) set back that forced me to delay that goal (Note to self: If waiting for the lights to change, don’t just stand there on the hot pavement…). N...

Re: Taco Bell - Where's the Beef ??

We found a place called Maui Taco in New York and then in the Minneapolis airport and thought it was pretty good for fast Mexican. I just checked the website and apparently we visited the only 2 mainland locations... (the rest being in Hawaii)

Re: How little training would you do?

After running my first 3 halfs I started training for my first full. Due to my work schedule, I was only able to run on the weekends (with the occasional weekday run), so my marathon training consisted of: - Long run on Saturday - Repeat Hence my name. I do not recomend this method but it can be don...

Re: Snowshoeing

I would take it easy and if you want to run a bit, just keep it at a light jogging pace. Try 1 min. run, 1 min walk to see how it feels. Also you have to remember to bring your snowshoes out and away from your ankles slightly when you stride to avoid the inevitable contact (which will happen...). It...

Re: Chicago Tracking

Last year the temp at the start was 2C and 13C at the finish. This year it was 15 and 25 ( I think it got up to 30 but the humidity was not too high). All things considering, I feel good with my time, it was a warm one for sure. Sitting back and enjoying some wine and chips, then off to the post pas...

Ok I just tried on my race shirt. At first I thought I was given the wrong size, but I didn't realize they made "shlort" sleeve shirts...I feel like I shrunk it in the wash.

Re: Fuel

I like the perogy idea. I've done the Fig Newtons as well.

I find that the biggest boost with these foods are the fact that when you need them, you are hungry so real food is a real pick me up both physically and mentally.

Re: Fuel

Potato... Bake them the night before. Cut into little pieces and sprinkle with salt. They are a bit bulky to carry but it is a nice change from gels.

(don't try with sour cream and chives... too messy :) )

Re: Winter Running Paces?

I think that the main thing is, is that you may be running slightly slower, but you are working a lot of different muscles to keep your stability. That can't be a bad thing. It should translate into a stronger body when you start to run on bare pavement. I know that here in Winnipeg, after a long sn...
