Re: Wind briefs
I've always been able to manage without them. At colder temps (maybe -15 and below) I wear a breathable thermal layer under running pants. In extreme cold and wind (-25 to -30) I might add a pair of shorts between the thermal layer and pants.

Re: Time limit for Try-A-Tri Swim?
There is (usually) no time limit. My first couple of event swims I looked back as I was getting out of the water and the safety canoe/kayak was following me in. I said to myself "someone has to be last out of the water", then went out and caught a few people on the bike and on the run. Gi...

Re: Would you do a Canada Challenge
A local tri list called TriRudy has a challenge/award similar to that. Someday when my kids are older and I have more time to train I could see myself trying it: http://www.zone3sports.com/resourse%20links/Rudy%20Award.htm For a few years before and afterwards, Rudy completed 5 events that exemplify...

Re: December Beast Challenge
Thanks for the challenge. I missed two days but more importantly the challenge spurred me to do workouts on a couple of days I normally would have skipped over the holidays. I also started doing exercise bike and stretching while watching tv more often, which I've wanted to get in the habit of doing...

Re: December Beast Challenge
I broke my streak on Saturday. I considered counting a couple of walks to the park + 15 minutes of stretching as my activity for the day, but adding the stretching, the walks aren't really out of the norm for weekend activity.
I was back on the horse with a shortish long run yesterday.

Re: December Beast Challenge
I knew I wouldn't be able to run every day, but doing the running or cycling every day has still been a challenge. There have been several times when I might have just taken a rest day if it weren't for this challenge! :) So, thanks. +1 I knew I couldn't run every day but because of the challenge t...

Re: December Beast Challenge
Didn't get out for a run today (weekends are tough) but I did spend 35 minutes stretching, rolling, and doing some tabata-style planks and glute bridges tonight. It's not an intense workout but it's something that I never do, that I've been wanting to start. I added it to the spreadsheet as "ma...

I bought a Forerunner 25 about 3 weeks ago and it's been perfect for what I need: time, distance, and the Bluetooth sync is really handy. That it does basic activity tracking is a bonus.

Re: December Beast Challenge
I'm in for 30 minutes of activity! I do run almost every day anyway, so I don't really need a challenge for that, but it will be good to have an extra motivation to make sure I get something in even over the holidays and while travelling this month. +1 I know I won't get a run in every day but I th...

Re: Bike Racks?
Thanks Jen and Carm. I have a Thule 4 bike rack and really like it. On my Civic I can only put 2 bikes on there based on the tongue of the hitch but with your Mazda 5, you should be fine with bikes for 2 adults and 2 kids. Double check that though. I highly recommend Auto Racks. Their prices are com...

Re: Bike Racks?
Bumping up this old thread since I'm looking into getting a rack for our Mazda 5. We don't have a hitch yet, but will probably get one installed since I don't want a roof rack and the angle of the Mazda's back wouldn't allow for a trunk rack. I'm thinking of getting a 4-bike rack so that the kids bi...

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....
I forgot to refresh my memory on the exact layout of the workout before I went to the gym so I just ended up doing 6 x 800 at about 5k pace (still not really sure what my current 5k pace would be) with 400m moderate recoveries: 1 km w/u 6 x 800 @ 4:29 with 400m recovery @ 5:30ish 500m c/d 8.5km/42mi...
