Re: Pressure cooking

It's amazing. There is an Instant Pot recipe group on Facebook if you're on there. We usually pressure cook hard veggies (beets) and beans. I can't think of anything else that comes to mind. We use the slow cooker function more often. I like the saute feature to braise beef before making a beef stew...

Congrats, Stampie! Another marathon under your belt and I have no doubt that a great race (no glitches) will get you to your goal time. :)

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Glad to see everyone checking in! I'm marathon training for the first time as a working mother - I've done two post kids, but both times were while on mat leave, so I had lots of flexibility. It is requiring a lot of juggling during the week to fit it all in, but I love my three hour run break on S...

That post made my day. Congrats, little man! He's ready for a new pair of running shoes! As for me, life's good. A is a chatter box and is developing quite the attitude for a 2 year old. No terrible 2s over here but she's quickly becoming smarter than us. We're in trouble! I'm back into runn...

Re: Do you walk when you run?

After my pregnancy 2 years ago, I started back at 1:1 and regularly started doing 10:1 during my training. I did a half last fall while on mat leave, fell off the bandwagon last winter and then started running more regularly again this past spring. I did another fall half this year, still training a...

Re: Army Run Pacers: Andy best in 5k, Pat, Kiza awesome in h

Your 2:15 bunnies were fantastic. They were very encouraging and kept me moving through a last *tough* 7k. I came in 9 seconds ahead of goal time cause they were slightly ahead of schedule and let all their followers pass before the mats. I was about 50-100 m behind them heading into the finish chut...

Congratulations on tackling one of the toughest IMs out there. A couple of my friends (multi-IMs) raced as well and mentioned that their race day was very tough compared to previous IMs. Relish that accomplishment!

Re: Running stroller

I'm in the fixed front wheel camp. Try before you buy, as it's a personal preference. The used BOBs are coming down in price a lot - some are selling for as low as $100-150 now but they get snapped up quickly. I paid $250 for mine with all the accessories (bug cover, rain cover, drink holder for me ...

Re: Running stroller

Scrummy is our in-house stroller running expert but my view is that if you're not going to be in need of a bike trailer down the road, the BOB Revolution SE is the best option. I accidentally bought the CE and I don't like the wheels as much but it doesn't make a big difference in the grand scheme o...

Re: Bike Racks?

I have a Thule 4 bike rack and really like it. On my Civic I can only put 2 bikes on there based on the tongue of the hitch but with your Mazda 5, you should be fine with bikes for 2 adults and 2 kids. Double check that though. I highly recommend Auto Racks. Their prices are competitive and they ins...

It sounds like things are going well, Fishpants. Thanks for the update. Please make some time for yourself and get to a doc to get checked out. :) Your workout sounds perfect. I, too, find it hard to fit in. I'm running significantly slower than I was pre-baby but I'm ok with that and am seeing grad...

Carm thank you for telling me about holding A back from the toddler room. I mentioned it to the director & she said she won't fill Baby*Smiles' spot for now & we will revisit the idea of keeping him back in August :) That's great! Hopefully the transition this summer/fall will go well! Can ...

I thought Tiny Twinklers was the 12-17 months? That's what we're doing, I think, but likely on Sundays. Just waiting for DH's rugby schedule to be sorted out - C is moving on up to Super Starrs so we need to find a time where they line up. Correct! In the fall they have a new class for 1.5-2 years ...

Re: Run Commute and Training

Great job scrummy, especially on packing all those lunches and outfits! You're so organized! I'm going to try and start a daycare bike commute (leave car at daycare - ride to work and then do pick-up in the p.m.) once or twice a week starting now. It's a great way to get some fresh air and clear the...

Re: Hot running (newish) Momma's thread...

Thanks for the update, Smiles. Will your daycare do the transition from infant to toddler based on Babysmiles' progress? A is still in the infant room at 19 months and will be moving over by August/September. It seems like a much longer transition based on the individual kids' progress which is grea...

Re: Run Commute and Training

What about running the kids into daycare, leaving the Chariot there and then running into work (tempo/speed, whatever you want) after drop-off to get a longer run in once or twice a week? You could run home/take bus after work and then drive to pick up the kids? This would probably involve an earlie...

Re: Run Commute and Training

For a daily commute (I totally missed that!), as jwolf said, I would try to bike certain days to truck in the clothing and food and then carry a small pack the rest of the days. If biking won't work out with daycare drop off, maybe make a separate trip to drop off items after business hours/kiddy be...

Re: Run Commute and Training

I think that we've discussed this topic before in passing or maybe I read it in the hot mommas thread. IIRC you said that you can't easily squeeze in longer lunch-hour runs with your job? That would be my go-to for a longer tempo run. That's what I plan on doing on Tuesdays after my K2J 1/2m plan st...

An amazing result! I'm beyond impressed that you can push that hard in training and during a big race, all while juggling 2 young children (including a 1 year old!!!). That is so phenomenal. We're very proud of you! That BQ will be yours very soon.
