So you're saying nobody beat Beethoven?

Re: Ottawa Race Weekend 2014: Pacer Accountability
My Garmin had the 1/2 at 21.26. This was my 2nd year as a bunny, I write the 5k splits on my sign & use that to (slightly) adjust pace. FWIW, there are 2 things from this year's race that I'm proud of (apart from being withing 3s of my goal time). 1: there was a 1s/km difference between my pace ...

Re: Race day Sunday
You should feel like a rock star and well deserved. I followed the 1:55 pace bunny for the half until the marathon course went its separate way at the 10 K but that guy had such an even pace I ended up running the first half in 1:55:21. The one thing I could not get this training was an even pacing...

Re: Ottawa 9 Run Run
It's going to be balmy this year compared to last year! I wore shorts and my lightest long sleeve tech shirt last year and was really happy once running, but was freezing at the start. A lot of people overdressed, and completely overheated about halfway in.

Where to find running jewelry?
My wife is doing her first half marathon in 2 weeks, and this is a big deal (I'm sure everyone can relate!) I'd like to get her some kind of running jewelry to commemorate the occasion, anyone know where to find something either to order, or better yet in Ottawa? Only thing I've found so far is '13....

Re: Marathoning for Mortals
I should add that I used Hidgons novice 1 program when training for my 1st and it went well. I did expand the length by 2 weeks, so I did the longest week twice (with an easy week in between). For me this was perfect, I was doing around 25 - 30 km per week max when I started.

Re: Marathoning for Mortals
I haven't followed any of the specific programs, but I love the book. This was the book that made me decide to try to return to running & train for a half marathon 4 years ago, & I've been running ever since.

Re: What Garmin and Why?
Regarding the HRM on the 305 though, I find it is pretty flakey for me for around the 1st 10 minutes of my runs. I've been told the polar doesn't do this. When I use it on the TM, I actually leave it off for the 1st 10 mins, and then hit the start button.

Re: What Garmin and Why?
Regarding the size issue, try on a 305. I thought the size would bug me, but when I tried it on I was surprised at how well the designed it to fit on small wrists. In fact, I planned to get a polar HRM for this reason, and only tried on the 305 as an afterthought. I've had the 305 now since late 200...

Gatineau Trail Runs
I just noticed these Tuesday trail runs in Gatineau, can anyone give me any info? I worry about getting in over my head (I don't even own trail shoes), but have been thinking about "what's next" after spending 2 years trying to get to Boston... And maybe trail running is it. I was thinking...

Re: Frying IPODS
Anyone in Ottawa remember that torrential downpour, combined with a windstorm that knocked out power to a bunch of Ottawa a month ago? I was running in that, with my shuffle on my shorts (which may say as much about me as the ipod). My kids have those touch screen nanos, I can imagine those being le...

I did the 5k once with my brother in law (who is Army) and it was an awesome experience. You could pick out the soldiers easily as the ones who didn't jump when the canon went off.

Re: Frying IPODS
I didn't even realize they HAD moisture sensors. Maybe I've gotten lucky with my shuffle, since I've gotten caught in some pretty nasty rain storms while running. I got mine for $35 as a refurb, when they intro'd the one with the controls in the headphones I went for the one they were discontinuing ...

Re: Race Stats
Ottawa definitely only uses the chip time for splits How do you know this? I wasn't sure and seem to remember that it is gun time. I sent the question in a mail to sportstats. OK, I know that this year in the half, and the last 2 years in the full the splits were chip time. Not sure about other rac...

Re: Ottawa Race Weekend - list of who's running
I saw the orange crew, I was too far on the right side to get over to high five - even though I've never met any of you the orange made me smile!!! Tough to miss this. I actually missed the water stop at 9k, everyone was saying gatorade, water at the next table, and then I ran out of tables..... No ...

Re: Race Stats
Ottawa definitely only uses the chip time for splits, makes sense that that would skew the calculation. I did hear that a couple of people had odd 2nd half times in Ottawa last year & missed the 30km mat, but I don't think they ever adjusted the results to DQ them. I was thinking about this, ess...

Re: Race Stats
Wondering if the organizers will be DQ-ing people with odd times in the last 12k. I'm surprised they didn't add a mat after the split though!
I suppose the script could be changed, to compare the last 12km pace to the 1st 30 km pace, looking for outliers.

Re: Race Stats
I think there's a mistake in the calculation for the Ottawa half. This is me:
gun time:1:39:41.9
chip time: 1:37:48.1
10KM split time: 0:47:05
I don't understand how this passes me (there are others like this):
Gun : 1:39:14.9
Chip : 1:39:01.8
10km: 0:47:19
gun time:1:39:41.9
chip time: 1:37:48.1
10KM split time: 0:47:05

Chip : 1:39:01.8
10km: 0:47:19

Re: Race Stats
Thanks again for taking the time to do this, I enjoyed checking on a friend (who had a great race yesterday & was passed by nobody!) I'd love to see the total # of people passed in yesterday's Ottawa half, at least in my area I found it impossible to get into the correct place, so it felt like I...
