Re: Heed vs Perpetuem for Ultra Races
I switched to Salt Stick capsules from Succeed because the international shipping costs for S-Caps can be fairly high and you can get Salt Stick here in Canada at places like RunningFree. I take 1-2 an hour depending on the temperature and just take them with water. I think using straight water is e...

Re: Question about Limberlost Challenge
I was very feverish the three days leading up to Limberlost last year (my fever broke around noon on the Friday), but I had already paid for the race so just decided to go for it. I felt great for 8K and then just was super weak. So, I just hiked the last three loops and enjoyed the view. It's a ver...

Re: Sulphur Springs Trail Run
I enjoyed Sulphur Springs this year, even when I struggled in the second half. Was great to see Strider running so strong in his first 100 miler. Kim Mc set a PB and then helped her hubby c_mcpeake finish his 100 miler. And Trailzen hammered his 100-mile race as well. Congrats everyone. Here's my ra...

Re: Sulphur Springs Trail Run
Two more sleeps until Sulphur. Hope you're all ready and excited for the big race. I'm looking forward to cheering on Strider as he runs his first 100 miler.

Grand Canyon Rim2Rim2Rim
On Tuesday I ran/hiked the double crossing of the Grand Canyon. I know that JD and Chris will post their own reports soon, but here are my reflections from the adventure.

Runningwarehouse.com ships Montrail and La Sportiva to Canada. Pretty good prices there as well.

Re: Haliburton 2011
Hope everyone's final prep for Hali is going well. My dining room is a bit of a disaster as I'm still organizing my drop bags and my gear is strewn all over the table. Thankfully my wife is being very patient with me... It's hard to tell our two-year-old to pick up his toys when his Daddy makes such...

No, Plan B is to call in sick. Plan C is to follow along online. If you run fast enough that you vomit, it will all be legit.

Re: Dirty Girls 2011
Wasn't at DG, but at Limberlost I saw a number of runners taking a gel and then just throwing the empty wrapper on to the trail. Perhaps as more people get interested in trail running it would be helpful for RDs to make an announcement prior to the start about not throwing trash.

Re: Winter Running in the Peg? Are Snowshoes Needed?
Snowshoes are not needed, but I really enjoyed snowshoeing at Birds Hill last February when I visited Winnipeg. As well, I ran around Assiniboine Park a bit with my snowshoes. It's good exercise and offers some variety to running on the roads, especially during days when the sidewalks haven't been c...

Re: Creemore 100 miler?!?
In addition to the toasted bagels and cheese and crackers, I also received chocolate covered almonds within seconds of finishing, so perhaps I have been swayed in my endorsement. And the 40% discount off the entry fee is a pretty sweet deal as well. I only ran one hill on the course, and that was on...

Re: Lava Salts, S Caps, endurolytes etc: What do you use and why
I started using S-Caps when I was living in Zimbabwe. With the S-Caps, I knew that I could take one or two an hour and be able to rely solely on water for my hydration purposes. And during runs at Comrades and Two Oceans in South Africa, they worked great at keeping me from cramping up (except for t...

Check out http://www.fixingyourfeet.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. If you're prone to feet problems, probably a good idea to buy the book. As well, given the short timeline before Hali, you can drop the author an email at jvonhof@verizon.net. I don't have blister issues, so no a...

I ran some of the East Coast Trail in June. Absolutely stunning scenery. Highly recommend a trip to Newfoundland. Some great national parks to explore as well, such as Gros Morne and Terra Nova.

Re: Haliburtons Anonymous (HA)
Hi, I'm new. JD told me about this site on the weekend. So, is this like a support group or something for people with a running addiction? I'm running the Haliburton 100 Miler in a few weeks, so will probably see most of you there.
