Re: Low body fat % and TTC (women's health issue)

High body fat can also hinder fertility. Fat "makes" estrogen and male steroids (through complicated conversions) so it is almost like being on the pill. That makes sense - this is why obese women have fertility trouble. As usual, extremes either way are bad, the trick is figuring out the...

Re: Low body fat % and TTC (women's health issue)

Your "observe and track" plan sounds like a good one, especially if you're not TTC at the moment. Lighter periods are also related due to lower levels of progesterone, which results in a thinner lining. O rly? Interesting, didn't know that. (Hmmm, according to the gender swaying 'techniqu...

Re: Low body fat % and TTC (women's health issue)

My point was mainly that you really know unless you start to have trouble, so I wouldn't try to GAIN fat unless there was a problem already. The additional important factor is that Sandra already has three kids, and our bodies tend to be "primed" for more pregnancies after we have kids. G...

Re: Low body fat % and TTC (women's health issue)

Wow, Jesse, THANK YOU so much for sharing your personal experience and knowledge. This is exactly the sort of experience I was hoping to hear about. :) I haven't tracked my cycles seriously since we were TTC last time, so it's been over 3.5 years really. My cycles tend to be longer, 28-35 days befor...

Re: Low body fat % and TTC (women's health issue)

I've heard that one of the big Os can help with achieving the other. (you decide which is which. ;) Wow, thread derail! Alright, theory is 'the big O' moment helps with conception. It also encourages getting a boy, whereas not having an 'O' encourages a girl. Not sure what the pseudoscience i...

Re: Low body fat % and TTC (women's health issue)

-Some women get abdominal pain when they ovulate and that would occur mid-cycle (or 2 weeks before the next expected menstruation for those with longer cycles) The first time I experienced that I thought my appendix was rupturing. So painful. So glad I'm on the pill now and don't get it anymore!!! ...

Thanks, Jen & kab! You both remind me of some very good points. I'm going to track for the next few cycles, temp and CM and other signs. Hah, I have DEFINITELY been PMS'y, just ask the poor husbeast......  :shifty: Alex isn't nursing for nutrition at his age, obviously, but he's st...

Low body fat % and TTC (women's health issue)

So DH and I are currently trying to make some family planning decisions. (Translation - are we done with having kids?) We're both on the fence, but really need to figure out what we want this year. Lots of disruptive stuff that's career related on DH's side in the next few years, and lots of long se...

Omg.  DH would, like, TOTALLY be on board, and it would probably be a great thing for him to train for his fitness test and all. However, having said that, I swore a LONG time ago never ever ever ever ever to let DH try carrying me again after he gave me a piggyback ride years and years...

Re: Car pushing

Oh puh-leeze. You can get a damned good upper body/core workout around the house without doing something quite so Darwinian. Shovel driveway, especially if it's an ice-topped wet slushy mess? Core, upper body, AND cardio. Lugging vacuum through 3 flights of house? Core, upper body, legs. Not vacuumi...

Re: OMG - I *get* it!

Or it could be DOMS from the stroller that you're just feeling now. I would think that someone with a few kids gets more than enough back muscle training to support themselves upright while running. The whole point of efficient forward lean while running is less effort, not taking the strain from o...

Re: OMG - I *get* it!

If your abs are sore from using the stroller it's likely because you are leaning on it too much and basically doing a running "plank." Or her back muscles are weak so the abs have to pick up some of the strain... My abs aren't sore after running with stroller. They were sore today when I ...

My consistency is erratic and it's not at all automatic yet, but it's definitely working. My lower abs are the most tired part of me today after the run, and that's just weird! It takes some getting used to and the feeling in your abs means you're doing it correctly: holding proper alignment requir...

Maybe you can market the new technique: "Run perfect, run Pink with pram". I like it! I've got people at the RR wanting to borrow my stroller now. Just got back from a 16k LSD....I can say for sure that the new form changes are making a huge difference. The changes were very, very s...

Re: OMG - I *get* it!

Lucky you!!! I've been trying to figure it out for a couple of weeks and I'm feeling like a total uncoordinated spaze. It would help if I bought the book and dvd. How did you learn it? Did you take a class? I do have the book, but all it did was overcomplicate things and I gave up on it because the...
