Re: Doping scandal at Nike?

Tip of the iceburg? How do you know? All anyone knows for sure are the allegations that already came out. From La's link, this is what Goucher's whinging appears to be all about. Kara Goucher's Cytomel Some of the most unpleasant allegations involve former-NOP runner Kara Goucher’s weight. Epstein r...

Re: Doping scandal at Nike?

With Goucher, wasn't her main allegation that Alberto recommend she take Cytomel, but for which she didn't have a prescription? Kinda seems like small potatoes to me. Perhaps Alberto should fess-up on that one (moreso as he already confessed about experimenting with testosterone cream on his son bec...

Re: Doping scandal at Nike?

The fact that she followed Salazar's "un-ethical" advice makes all the difference. Also coming out with it now does much more harm to Alberto than it does to her. That's why its unfair. We have no idea whether or not if she regrets doing it. She of course will say that she does, but all an...

Re: Doping scandal at Nike?

Alberto gave her some shady-area suggestions, BUT SHE DECIDED TO FOLLOW IT. If I was "Lauren Fleshman", I would be thinking......"instead of being inspired by my fellow athletes to speak up, maybe I should keep things to myself because this guy helped me out and while it was "sh...

Lauren Fleshman weighs in: http://www.propublica.org/article/elite-runner-had-qualms-alberto-salazar-asthma-drug-performance" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This was an interesting quote from her: I had almost been unconsciously scheming like, oh, cool, if my thyroid's suppressed I'l...

25 minute 1500-meter swim at 1:40 / 100-meter pace. 3-mile TT in 19:11 . I had tapered somewhat for this day because I was seriously considering putting in a hard bike/run Brick workout in preparation for next week's Olympic. Then I woke up today and decided that I really, really didn't want to do a...

Re: Doping scandal at Nike?

Here's a link to a fairly thorough article outlining the allegations and evidence: https://www.propublica.org/article/former-team-members-accuse-coach-alberto-salazar-of-breaking-drug-rules If this story evolves in the typical way (e.g., Lance & ARod), this is going to get ugly in the Olympic b...

I love Chrissie - and her attitude. I follow her on Twitter. She is now basically retired, and an ambassador for the sport. She has also actively been trying to establish a female Tour de France. Give her a follow! Don't use twitter. Perhaps she wants a female Tour De France so she can win at somet...

Chrissie Wellington's training regime

Bought her book "Without Limits"; This woman is definitely out of this world, but not because of her aerobic engine or achievments; She has a capacity for work/recovery that must match the Wolverine from X-men if this really is her training regime (go to the bottom of the page); http://iwa...

Re: Surviving Indoor Trainer H-E-double-hockeystick

I'll watch tv if I'm home or will read a book if I'm using the one at the gym. Structured workouts are easier to get through but only if there is a level of discomfort or altered instensity. Sufferfests and most structured workouts can't always be done unless your only doing a few hours per week.

I think I'd be torturing my body less by trying to run a marathon every day than by trying to eat ten bananas at a time three times every day. I was thinking along those same lines. I would need a truck towing a port-a-potty! 30 bananas per day .... Crikey! 10 bananas as a single meal...

Re: Hoping for windy conditions???

It is better than being in the wind alone IF people take turns (or someone big other than you "pulls"). In my experience it isn't that hard to organize as long as you aren't winning. A friend and I alternated for 16 miles of Las Vegas marathon, annyoyingly we had 10+ runners lined up behi...

Re: David Veilleux announces his retirement

You sound like big tobacco in the 80's! :) So let's assume that Veilleux didn't see it as that harmful. He's still in a sport where cheating is rewarded, and he'd have to overcome his any notions of sportsmanship or morality against cheating and become part of the system. He'd have to risk his repu...

No idea, but you could test it out tomorrow, the forecast calls for 25km/h winds with 40km/h gusts :-/ Hmmm, not sure what to feel about "very high" winds; Thanks NoQuit, I hadn't even checked that yet :) suggest you each take turns for a km or two. It's hard to organize a "turn-taki...

Hoping for windy conditions???

In a big race (+10,000 participants) where there are plenty of racers likily to be going as fast as you, does it improve your chances of racing a fast time in windier conditions? I figure it might be since you can potentially draft a small group of runners when your going into a headwind (and if the...

We can add Haile G to that list too. I suspect it isn't ideal for older or more injury prone runners.

Re: How bagged should I be at the end of my long runs?

It seems a little bit odd to ask a bunch of runners (mostly) to advise you about an issue which may have more to do with the details of your triathlon training. Specifically, - you have a lot of swim and bike workouts that are going to affect your condition at the start of a long run - your overall...
