Tri is not as hard as you think. It is much more fun than you realize.

We tend to over think about it.

At the end of the day, it is a swim, bike and run. I ain't much of a swimmer. As long as I can drag myself back to shore, everything else will be ok. =D

Iron Terrible, I would say yes and no. Your coach is from a swimming background. He coaches a college swim team. They have been swimming for most of their lives. As such, they are very natural in the water. Compare to a new triathletes who do not know how to swim, TI provides a great way to teach th...

The focus of longer distance (3 hr bike or 2 hr run etc) is to build up your aerobic base. Other than going long, here are something that is important for 1/2 IM: i) how much to drink ii) how much to eat iii) know your HR zones and know when you are riding/running too hard and your I would say (iii)...

If your training is to build aerobic capacity, then I say no. Riding is riding. The diff i see is with the bike and trainer set up, you get to work on a few things that benefit for u to get use to the bike setup. For example: - getting use to the bike position and learning to drink and eat from the ...

As most ppl on the post, the wary is the run. Tempo and Tempo Hill repeats for a longerish run (1 hr 30 min) can be taxing on the body. Plus a long run on Sat can be very hard to recover. I would suggest either leave yourself room for a day off on Wed or Fri (after the higher intensity runs) to give...

The only thing that is more fun than running is to ride a bike before you run. During my first triathlon in 2005, I knew this was the sport and lifestyle that I want to be a part of. As I grow and grow, the fun continues. Ironman is definitely expereince I will never forget. I will also never forget...

Hi, My own experience. In Sept 2005, I can swim 2 laps freestyle before I huff and puff. I took 3-4 classes with a swim coach. For Sept - Apr, I went to the pool 3-4 times a week. Each time about 30 min. By apr, I was able to swim 2 km (40 laps 25 m pool). Swimming takes a lot of time b/c you have t...

If you want to see Canadians in action, check out 2007 ITU Cancun Elite Male. Canadians took three places on the top 4 spots. I can't wait to see how we compete in '08 Olympics.

Rungeek, I never finish the Hardcore 100. It is a 5 hr DVD series. My previous coach told me to not go over 3 hr on a trainer. I compromised by using this dvd and going up to 4. Wow, I just looked at the Hardcore 100 link; that is the greatest thing ever!!!! I'm no where near ready to ride that long...

I personally can't watch TV while spinning- I just dog it too much. I would really like a podcast- the visuals aren't that interesting to watch- it is more the instructions that I like about the Spinervals. TriJenn, You can turn up the audio and turn down the screen :D j/k. A number of triathletes ...

what's ultra distance triathlon? Do you mean Ironman distance? You should go on the trainer as much as you can handle it mentally without burning out. The swim will be an area that i would focus on. Swimming in a master is good. Better is to get a number of open water swims (with groups) in before your race. I found the toughest part in tri swimming is not the swim itself. It is dealing with constant contact with others and in open water. The wave...

Snowboard...mostly at blue mountain.

In Ontario, there ain't higher hills to board with.

It is a great cross trainer. Works on the calves, hips, abs.
