Re: what do you guys think about...
it's not about money (it doesn't cost much to maintain). It's about needing more than just me taking initiative. If I'm the only one putting in effort, then it won't work, and we'll just sit here stagnant for another 5 years. Like Rob said, we need a collective group to put in some time and effort. ...

Re: what do you guys think about...
A Vancouver-based meet-up group wouldn't be of any value to me for obvious reasons. You could perhaps direct some of the members from that group over here if you're trying to get people to contribute more. Through my account I have the ability to set up as many groups as I want. We could have meetu...

Re: what do you guys think about...
What I find most valuable about this forum right now is the Log section. I'm not using it as extensively as I used to, but I do like that I have a place where I can write about what I'm doing. I like following others that are logging. So combining this group with the meet-up group would likely not ...

So, I have this meetup group that has been sitting inactive for awhile. It's a hiking and trail running group that I inherited when the old organizer stepped down. There are a bunch of assistant organizers but none of them have been posting any events. It's like pulling teeth to get anyone but mysel...

Re: Volunteeer burnout (?)
I find it totally depends on the race and on the organizers and the volunteer organizers. There are some races I would never volunteer for again... but others have been great! And around here, sometimes volunteering for a race will get you early access to races that sell out early, so that’s always ...

Re: Garmin Forerunner Vs Garmin Vivoactive
I agree that MEC is the best place to buy, simply because they will help you out if anything goes wrong down the road... With that said, I bought my Garmin Fenix from Best Buy simply because I got a killer deal on it. The newer model had come out and I got the older model for $99. :) I loooove my Fe...

Re: Cyclists boycotting these brands...
I was reading a lot of the comments yesterday and the pushback MEC is getting is from the people who don't understand the difference between selling hunting gear and supporting the NRA. It's a massive distinction that's being overlooked by a bunch of people in kneejerk reactions. As well, a lot of p...

apparently a bunch of cyclists are now boycotting Camelbak, Giro, and Bell because their parent companies make firearms and support the NRA: https://singletrackworld.com/2018/02/wo ... eady-have/

so to simplify it for the average joe, if we were to make an 80/10/10 rule--80% low, 10% medium, 10% high, that'd work for most people.

Soggy Sunday
It took until today (!) for me to get in my first run of 2018. Not a great start to the year, but work has been crazzzzzy with lots of overtime, etc.
Anyway, I did 10k today in the rain. It felt good when I was DONE. Now I'm showered and warm. :)

Go Spirit!!!
rest day for me today. I'm tired from snowshoeing yesterday (!) and also from late night last night. I wasn't partying or anything... NYE is my brother's birthday so I was spending time with family, but was still out late and tired today. So a nap is in order today!

I never think of MEC for gels. I love the store, but we only have one and it not close to me.
It's worth a trip to stock up. The prices are dramatically better.

Re: Winter... To run or not to run?
You can run on a treadmill or an indoor track.... orrrrrr.... you can run outside through the winter! Most people run outside all year round. :) The hardest part is the footing if there is fresh snow or slick ice. There are traction devices you can get for your shoes for those days, or just stay ins...

Re: Do you run in the rain?
I was thinking about this thread today as I was running through a torrential downpour and thought I'd come back to give this tip: Make sure your phone (and anything else that might be damaged by water) is enclosed in something waterproof. Do NOT (I repeat, do NOT) make the mistake of thinking ziploc...
