Re: Disqualified Triathlete Reported by “Race Buster”

More than "Oops," it's a disgrace the way she handled it! I saw that on Twitter and posted it on FB. I'm shocked (but not, because, people these days...).

I love Sugoi, too. LG makes good stuff, too (my favourite pair of tri shorts are LG, as is my commuter bike). Nice to hear a Canadian company being bought by another Canadian company!

Re: what do you guys think about...

A Vancouver-based meet-up group wouldn't be of any value to me for obvious reasons. You could perhaps direct some of the members from that group over here if you're trying to get people to contribute more. Like Jennifer, I mostly use RM for the log (and keeping up with other people's training). My o...

Re: IronColl runs a half in Red Deer

It was to the point that I was starting to feel like throwing up. I took some deep breaths and tried to calm myself down. I have been like tht before, any time that I have trained hard for a race and worked hard: both Ironman races and the last half marathon that I ran in less than 2 hours. There i...

Though in some ways it should be, because as many mentioned below, there are some races where volunteers are treated very well (Ironman, 5Peaks Ontario), and other where they're not.

Re: Boston 2018

2. Yuki, the men's leader, was so close behind Des. I noticed when he turned onto Hereford that's where he passed Krista. He passed Sellers (the 2nd place woman) along Boylston. They never even mentioned her name, though they did mention Krista coming in 3rd. It was her 2nd marathon ever, and she's...

Re: Boston 2018

Also really happy for Krista-- earlier in the race it didn't seem like she had a chance at the podium, and the announcers were never covering her-- I had no idea she had pulled ahead (wasn't following the online tracking for the leaders). I think there were a few reasons for their lack of coverage:...

Re: Boston 2018

I had to step away for a while and just saw the result... Krista came 3rd!!! Top 8 women were all North American. Wow! Very surprising. And the Japanese guy who went out front early (and was then pulled back) ended up winning! 9th place for Reid. Looks like Eric was DNF. Jesse is at 30K in 2:...

At the half, Reid has dropped to 20th (1:38 back) and Eric to 28th (3:07 back).

Krista is still in 13th at 25K (1:57 back).

What a crappy day!

Besides, scrummy, are there any other RMer racing today?

Top Canadian pros are:
Reid Coolsaet
Eric Gillis
Krista Duchene

Re: What to do with cauliflower snow

Didn't see your reply in time to comment for dinner. I wasn't sure if "snow" meant that it was finer than cauliflower "rice." I don't think it's supposed to end up with the same soft texture as rice. The only time I've used "riced" cauliflower it was to make Chinese-sty...

Re: I need a speed work refresher!

Hope the wind isn't too bad. Are you doing the repeats on a straight-away and not at a track? Yes. The tracks are too far away from the store to be practical. We have a nice wide sidewalk/path to run on next to a park, uninterrupted by cross streets. It might be a smidge over 400m, depending on whe...

Re: I need a speed work refresher!

Thanks for the input. It's been so long since I've done this kind of training I forgot a lot of the theory. The Running Room program has 3 x 1-mile repeats (like described in the article), so I'm not really sure why your instructor is changing that-- but both can be good for a half-marathon program....

I need a speed work refresher!

Our clinic is starting speed work this week (only 4 sessions in total before race day, I think). the original program called for 1-mile repeats but the instructor is having us do 400m repeats (with equal distance rest, so longer recovery time). I'm not sure how many we're doing. I can't seem to find...

Re: Garmin Forerunner Vs Garmin Vivoactive

I have both. My Forerunner is an old clunker (310XT), which is great for multi-sport training and racing. I mostly use it as a bike computer now as I can mount it to my handlebars to see my speed, time, etc. without having to look at my wrist. I also don't like wearing the HR strap, so I use my Vivo...

Why would someone walk 100 miles in the snow?

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-i-would-walk-100-miles/ Spirit, i thought of you while reading this article. I'm always curious as to what motivates people to take on extreme events. I never thought of myself as an extreme athlete, but I guess 3x 16-hour Ironman races somewhat qualif...

Re: Shoes - technical or fashion ?

Sometimes shoe manufacturers are trying to keep up with what people want from a design perspective, sometimes it's new technology, sometimes the tail wagging the dog. ;)

Ultimately, it should come down to which shoes work best for you (that don't make you cringe or be embarrassed to wear in public).

Re: Cyclists boycotting these brands...

Sounds like a very well-thought out response. I'm still unclear in what the overall goal is, though. Not just with MEC, but with people's push to boycott companies who deal with the NRA. To me, boycotting seems like a knee-jerk reaction to something, but without a lot of thought put into it. If the ...
