Yeh KaTy! Well even if you didn't plan to it seems like you were meant to get out for that walk! Good to hear. You have a very special job there, I admire people who help others improve their quality of life.

Anyone out there?

Anyone getting out for a walk these days? I didn't manage one on our holidays last week. I brought all of my gear with big plans but somehow a holiday with a 1 and 2 year old doesn't leave a lot of down time  We had great fun though and I think I got my exercise chasing everyone around. Went ...

Way to go Rob! Sorry your cheering crew bailed on you but 5:30am is way too early after our holidays! You continue to motivate me with every race. I almost can't believe it when you call home to report yet another PB! In the words of Kylar "SO FAST!"

Hey Campbellskid, good to hear that my little success can help keep someone else moving too. You are right you can let those body parts heal and still get in a bit of exercise. I bet you will feel great after. KaTyBrown, I can tell you from experience that most mom's with strollers would LOVE the ad...

Wow, like I said, this place is so inspirational. I just posted that maybe minutes ago? I'm sorry BaldGuy I haven't been on here much lately. Why are you not running? Are you injured? I think that patience is a tricky thing when you want something so bad. Thanks again people :P

Yep still at it.

I think I am finally breaking through my fitness plateau a tiny bit. It seems like since I started walking in Jan. I haven't been able to improve much without killing myself. It seemed like everytime I pushed a bit too much beyond my comfort zone that my whole body would rebel and go on strike for a...

Yes, unfortunately klewlis is right, there is nothing mystical about the thyroid. Frustrating, yes. Although it really did work in my favour after each of my sons were born. Each time I went severely hyperthyroid and lost 40 pounds within 3 months. Not a good weight-loss strategy though, you can't p...

Weight loss

Hmmm. seems like it is going to take me a long time to lose any more weight at this rate. I go for 3 walks a week only about 2-2.5km at a time. That is about 175-200 cals each walk. If to lose 1 pound you need to burn off 3500 cals, that is going to take me a very long time  Seems like my wei...

Hi all, still here and still walking. I have been dealing with a number of health issues myself. Can't seem to get my thyroid levels "normal" which causes a great deal of fatigue, and now I just found out that I have some cysts on my ovaries! This could also explain my fatigue and definitely explain...

Bridie, congratulations -- now tell me truthfully, was doing the race less of a workout than chasing your boys around while Robbie races? ;-) Glad to hear you're becoming a walking/running addict, too. :) You hit the nail right on the head! This was probably the most peaceful "me time" I have had i...

Yippee! My first 5km done!

Today I walked my first 5km race here in Erin, it was really fun and I pushed a little harder than usual and finished in 48:49. I walked with a friend and really enjoyed the experience altogether. We decided to sprint across the finish line which psyched Robbie-T out, he thought he saw me coming and...

Yippee! Another walker here! Good to see. I just completed my first 5km race this morning, walked the whole way and sprinted to the finish. It was a lot of fun, a little cool for my liking though. Are you new to walking? Or a pro?

Hmmm Campbell's kid, it takes me 50 minutes to walk 5km, so you are still winning the race. Good for you for knowing when to listen to your body to slow down a bit. Hope you are back at it again soon!

Gotta love it!

I have to admit that I am really enjoying my walking so much more now that I can get outside and enjoy the weather. I usually enjoy my time on my treadmill but find that since the I have been going out for my walks I can really go farther faster! Time seems to fly while I am busy looking around, soa...

Hey Campbellskid, I am sorry to hear that your knee is not feeling better. Maybe another trip to the doc's will give you more insight. Your walking distance is still way ahead of mine anyway :D I have been very, very sick for about a week and a half so my walks have been few and far between  ...

Funny and a little uncomfortable.

Hi all, I signed up for a local learn to run/walk clinic here in Erin and we had our first gathering last Thursday night. I was sooooo excited and even more so when I entered the room and saw about 25 other people all shapes, sizes, ages etc. The clinic was clearly offering guidance/coaching to both...

How great that everything is coming together for you Karen! Here is what I would do if "in your shoes". Where your new ones for yucky weather and go buy another pair the same and only wear them in nice weather. No sense taking chances with your knees if you know that brand of shoe is good for them. ...

Any stresses/challenges completely vanished when the boys and I saw your determined face on the big screen in Copps and then your entrance into the stadium. I immediately broke into tear...

Sorry to hear that your body is not cooperating with you. I think that walking is a very good idea for you in order to give your knee some time to heal. It definitely has far less impact than running. Perhaps your balance issues on the treadmill have to do with the fact that you are using totally di...
