Re: Barefoot Running

I remember when the topic of barefoot running and VFF “shoes” came up about 18 months ago. The post got me thinking, my first training shoes were canvas topped Sand Shoes or Tennis Shoes, so I went back to an original book I have Arthur Lydiard’s “Run to the Top” and there were pictures of his stabl...

World Youth Champs. Lille France.

Any RM'ers following the World Youths over in France?

I see Christian Brennan (Can) ran 53:15s. in the 400m. semi final and has made it into the final. I have my fingers crossed for a little mate of mine in tommorows 5,000m Walk.

Challenge

I know RM'ers like a challenge. This was sent to me the other day (Too tough for me!!) perhaps it should go in the Food Nutrition and Recipies forum. Sean Muller writes: Having met some really remarkable local runners out in Africa recently, I have been motivated into doing more and seeking out a ne...

Re: 800m finish - Robbie Andrews

As you well know, some races go very slow until the final 200m, then accelerate dramatically (which works if you're the best 200m runner in the race). That is what I do like about 400/800/1500m running: the strategy and the kick. What I don't like is the pain  Don't agree Michael, that might b...

Re: 800m finish - Robbie Andrews

I’d say Rob Andrews did his homework pretty well. Pre race, the commentator mentioned that Charles Jock likes to go out hard and that Andrews likes to sit back and “sprint” home over his rivals, which, as Pat Menzies says is misleading. In a truly run 800m. race everyone is slowing down it’s the run...

Making It Up As You Go

I parked the car beside an old mulick heap in the Tooborac Forest and meandered off at a geriatric jog spooking half a dozen or so grey foresters who thought they had the place to themselves. I gradually found a little bit of rhythm as I wandered up and down along forest track. After 20 min I came t...

With regards the EPO issue I won't say on which side of the fence I sit. What's wrong with a bit of straight talking? I'm so pleased the moderators haven't closed this thread. 'Absit reverentia vero' "The truth shouldn't be silenced to spare someone." Also Shakespeare indicated (The Mercha...

Re: Incline running: How is it useful

Real hills pose the dilemma of having to run back down them. You dont have to run back down, you can walk back down or jog back down - depends on what you are trying to achieve. Technically it's power (not strength) that you're trying to attain with hill running. You will hear people argue that doi...

Tragic News Sammy Wanjiru has died

How terribly sad, possibly the best marathon runner ever and to think just age 24.
He seems to have had quite a few troubles since the Beijing Olympics.
Pax Vosbiscum Sammy.
Rest in Peace

Re: Incline running: How is it useful

A very successful old coach that once told me that anytime someone says "Science tells us............." He stops listening. Are you after a scientific study or does your question regards incline/hill training apply to you? Good scientists are not always good coaches. If the training applie...

Re: Goals and motivation

Everyone has ability but if the desire to reach a goal is not there you have a problem. You can train your heart out but if the workload isn't right or you are doing the wrong work at the wrong time of the year. Another problem. There are no magic wands, athletics is hard work and it takes years to ...

Re: Can Radcliffe win Olympic gold?

Paula remains by far the fastest marathon runner of all-time although her 2h17s days will be enormously tough to replicate, coming back from pregnancy & injury, you have to go back 6 years to when she was fully fit and healthy and that seems an awfully long time ago now My instinct tells me flav...

Re: London Marathon

In theory (this is purely hypothetical) if Kenisia Bekele at the top of his game was to run comparably from 10000m to marthon as Geoffrey Mutai then he would have clocked a 2.01low at Boston. Of course there are a whole host of reasons why he probably wouldn't have. The thing is Mutai, great runner ...

Re: mile repeats

The relationship between a coach and his athlete is a two-way act of faith.

Why not discuss your training concerns with your coach rather taking advice from people who in all probability don’t know you, your training history and have never seen you run.

I might be going in a bit deep here, but for what it's worth:- I've taken these notes from an old copy of Leichtahletik Konkret (Germany) The article is writen by Dietmar Koszewski. SPRINTING speed is influenced by the mechanical parameters of stride length and stride frequency. Using superamaximal ...

Wasn't he supposed to be competing at the IPC World Games in Christchurch? I coudn't find him in the results.

Well, I'm heartbroken over the pics coming out of Christchurch today. Thankfully for my friends on a world trip, they just left Christchurch. Yes. And yes. It IS a heartbreaking situation in Christchurch. This is the city where the World IPC Games (AWD Athletes) were held last month.....I think &qu...
