Re: *sigh* Sportiva

Thinking of trying some Salomons. I have (mostly) made my peace with the Ultra Raptors, I had to monkey around with different sock choices for a bit, and put on a bit more Sport Shield, but I got them to the place where they didn't rub my heels. Worth it to me mostly because I love the grippy soles...

But how do you miss the kicking? And the having to pee every 10 minutes? And running feeling harder every week, and her pace getting slower every week? And, oh, not having a period for NINE MONTHS!! A baby bulge is a bit more than just extra weight. I still don't get how she just completely missed ...

Re: East Germany athletes were 'chemical field tests'

Man, cross out some of the names and replace them with "Bonds" or "Armstrong" and the article isn't quite so dated, is it? I know its a slight exaggeration, but I don't for a minute think of this article as a relic of history. I don't see huge similarities with the current stori...

Re: Has the Marathon Boom Peaked?

Most of you are comparing apples to oranges. Comparing running your absolute best and fastest in a 10k to completing a marathon. If you want to compare apples to apples, you have to compare running your absolute best and fastest in a 10k (a) to running your absolute best and fastest in a marathon (...

I tried to register this AM at 7:30 and I was getting the "race full" message, but I tried again just now and registration is still open. In for the 10K!

Re: How cold is too cold?

for me, +/- about -20 is my limit, depending on time of day and wind (-20 at 10:00 AM on a sunny morning is way preferable to -20 overcast with wind out of the north). as others have said, layers are your friend, including your face and eyes (balaclavas and glasses with clear lenses).

Ellie's report describes the service road as "a mind numbing and mentally challenging runnable non technical gravel hill to trudge, trudge, trudge up." So it wasn't just me! I was trudging up that road (relay leg 5) when Ellie blew by me like I was running backwards - on her second ...

I have been looking at that race as well, I like that it appears to be a series of different loops so that you can end up at/near the central aid area after each loop (but you don't have to run the same loop over and over and over again  ).

Re: A runner dies during the L.A. Rock 'n' Roll half-marathon

the statistics are kind of misleading... the article says that from 1982 to 1994, three people died during/immediately after marathons, which is 1 in 50,000 runners (or 2 per 100,000). In 2007 there were 26 deaths, but the rate of deaths decreased to 0.8 per 100,000 runners. I would be willing to be...

Re: New summer 50 miler in Whistler?

I wonder if STORMY will be back next year or if this will act as a sort of replacement? I doubt STORMY will come back in any of its most recent iterations - 50K, 50 mile, plus 50K relay - anytime soon. the 2010 RD (not the guy who picked it up briefly in 2011 and then dropped it again) has said in ...

I used to live (and run) in Portland, I never ran the marathon but I have volunteered at a marathon aid station a couple of times - my former running club (Team Red Lizard) hosts one every year. In past years they have been at mile 21, this year they're at mile 12. the article on the TRL website is ...
