For all your http://www.enduranceplanet.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; junkies out there, its confirmed that Kevin Patrick and Barry Siff are no longer going to appear on the show. Re: Endurance Weekend

Funny! Yup, pretty much like my workplace. Same here. I don't even bother telling people what I'm doing anymore because they just don't get it. And I'm not even training for anything big right now! ATD - the URL in your last post is incorrect. It ends with N instead of L. Thanks! Fixed. So La...

Re: Edmonton Fat Ass 50 - January 1st, 2011

I'm using a GoPro Hero HD cam. It's a tiny little POV video camera with a fisheye lens and comes with a bunch of different mounts. So far I've tried the chest mount and the head mount. They are selling them at Best Buy for $199 for the 760HD version or $349 for the 1080p HD version (for this type of...

Re: The Human Machine

Funny, at 1:46 into the video my buddy and local Edmonton Ultra runner Logan Beaulieu runs by the camera! Logan had a difficult race in 2008 finishing in 50:26:56 to Goggins' 33:36:20 (Goggins won in 2008). In 2009 Logan ran a much improved 43:10:51.0. Goggins time in 08 is certainly extremely impre...

Re: Iron Legs 50 Miler Registration

Thanks so much for the photos and course descriptions. I'm getting excited already! I'll likely take your advise and try out the poles on leg two. And I propose we do a training run sometime this summer if anyone is interested. Does anyone have or know where to download the GPS track of the whole co...

Re: 2011 Ultra roll call

Well, not sure this counts as it isn't a race, or even an offical event, but I'm gearing up for a Rim to Rim to Rim Grand Canyon run on Sept 10th. Depending on how my training goes I might do some real events either before or after. I'd love to run this one also. Are you running it solo or with a g...

Re: Iron Legs 50 Miler Registration

ha ha... come on sign up! It is supposed to be a great race. I'm looking for info on each leg. ie pole or no poles, recommended amount of sports drink and nutrition per leg etc.. I suppose I could find the results per leg from last year and look at the split times per leg to get an idea. But nothing...

So is anybody running the Fat Ass 50 this year. Start is at the Kinsman, 6am (I kid you not) for two-lappers, anytime before 9am for one-lappers. See the Blackfoot FB page for details.

Re: Canadian Death Race 2010 - Solo Finish

Wow Albertatraildog , great pics and an ever more amazing time. I understand that only 1 in 3 solo participants finish! What was the #1 factor in the DNFs? Good question. It was warm this year, so that may of had something to do with the DNFs, but with 149/418 soloists finishing this year's numbers...

Re: Canadian Death Race 2010 - Solo Finish

what happened to Jack?! It was his back again. I passed him on the way up Hamel and he was barely moving. He said he tried to keep going on Robaxiset, but by the time he summitted Hamel, he had to be taken off the mountain. But no matter what happened on this race, Jack's place in CDR history is ce...

Re: Canadian Death Race 2010 - Solo Finish

It was warm, but the course was reasonably dry and footing good. Still, 125km and 17,000 ft of climb is a long way to go! I'm feeling pretty good already though. No blisters, aches or pains, nada. Hal Koerner won the race in a new course record 12:45:38. Incredible. Jack was taken off from the summi...

Canadian Death Race 2010 - Solo Finish

Happy to report back that I successfully completed the Death Race once again this year. The race was every bit as challenging as I remember it from 2006. Here are a few snaps for those interested. This is from leg 1, around the village of Grande Cache. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k94/albertatr...

Re: Caffeine?

Caffeine can help your breathing in a shorter race, particularly if you suffer from EIA (which ROW does apparently). I would consider it a viable alternative to getting addicted to a puffer in that scenario. eta: I realize that there are just as many studies claiming the exact opposite (caffeine ex...

Re: Caffeine?

I wouldn't even think about racing without a cup of joe. Of course timing is everything. 45 min before the event works best for me. a. it does give you a stimulant effect b. it does reduce the perception of fatigue c. it does clean out the digestive tract... just be sure to visit the porta potty bef...
