Is anyone doing this new marathon or any of the distances?
Dunnville's close to my cottage — it's a nice little town.

Re: Around the Bay - Who's in....
I'm intrigued and flummoxed. Besides the question of why someone in that situation would cross the finish line, how could anyone think it's okay to wear another person's chip??!!

Changing email address for notifications
Sorry, I haven't managed to figure this out. How do I update the email address associated with my RM membership, to get notifications of forum postings? The one I'm using now is iffy and I'll be getting rid of it soon. Thanks.

Re: Shallonges and the spud Trophy - a history
Hi Maniacs! I just posted pic of the Spud Trophy on Facebook and remembering making it for the ATB Shallonge -- 2008, I think. I just logged in here for the first time in... years?... and man, it's great to see so many of the old names still active on the forum! I hope you're all well. I wonder wher...

In a Florida Walmart last week I discovered cartons of coconut milk by Silk. Yum! (But loaded with saturated fat.)

Re: Healthy Grain Choices
This doesn't exactly answer your question, but one thing I do that helps me to not miss bread/pasta/etc is to add chickpeas to my meals. For example, the other day for lunch at the office I used a hotpot (very handy) to boil water, and threw in rapini and chickpeas for a few minutes. I put that on a...

This is a great idea! I don't have any knowledge to add to the thread but I'll be watching to see what everyone decides on, and hopefully I can join in.

Re: 2010 in review
I could never have anticipated how 2010 would go. The first half of 2010 was rough for a number of reasons, and I didn't run or even really want to run. In June I started again, running about 25-32 km/week, as well as swimming lanes for the first time in my life. (I also tried the weight room at the...

Re: Vigorously boil or simmer soup?
My mom made hers the way your mom did, La. I was confused (years ago) when I first saw my hubby Bruce throw everything out and start with new veggies to make soup from stock, and ever since then I never quite knew what was the right/best way. He does most of our soup-making (usually in the crockpot ...

Re: Vigorously boil or simmer soup?
Do you throw out the vegetables? I read a recipe where the cook rinsed them and sliced them into the soup after the broth was made. I think my mom used to use the stock veggies for soup.

Vigorously boil or simmer soup?
I keep reading to gently simmer soup (when you're making stock), and I found this online: Simmering soup is a gentler way to cook soup than boiling because vigorous bubbling toughens meat and damage vegetables. Chinese soups can be simmered from 1 to 4 hours. It has been found that soups that has be...

Re: Trends in race registrations
One option I'd like is to see shirt/no shirt pricing for big races. I don't think a lot of races would offer this, mostly because shirt cost is usually dependant on how many shirts they order. If they know the race sells out, then they can pre-order the entire number. If they don't know until soon ...
