Calf and foot pain

I have been battling really bad shin splints for over 2 years now and it's getting to the point that I want to quit running altogether since I can not figure out the issue. It started just after I ran my first marathon in 2016, I had never has this issue before. I took the summer off because I was t...

Re: Run in recovery from alcohol or drug abuse?

If I recall, in Ottawa, back in 2008 or so, Phil Marsh from Running Room led a group of residents at the Ottawa Mission House to kickstart a running program for recovering addicts, etc .. I believe that at least 8 of the participants completed the marathon? Not sure if the program is still continui...

Re: lower back pain/shin splints

I had a very productive apt last night and we both agreed that this is going to take time to resolve and there is no quick solution. I am responding to treatment, she did some work on my foot and it seems to have relieved some of the back and hip pain I was having so we will focus on that for awhile...

Re: lower back pain/shin splints

I hate to leave, she is good and the whole office is. A lot of the people I run with go there so they are competent. I haven't really pushed it with her to figure it out because I trusted that she knew what was going on. I guess I will see what she says tonight.

Re: lower back pain/shin splints

I have a apt tonight and think we need to sit down and decide where we are going with this. I am starting to get frustrated that things are getting worse than better

lower back pain/shin splints

I am trying to see if I can get some advice here since I am getting very frustrated that I ran a marathon only 6 months ago and now I can't make it past 3k. I ran my first marathon back in May and didn't seem to have any issues afterwards but I developed a pain in the left foot and just thought it w...

Re: St. John's Tely 10 -no fog!!

Congrats, I heard it was a hot day. The issue in NFLD is that they never train in those conditions. Ran the race in 2013 and it was the same conditions. I actually cramped up really bad around the 10k mark and had the walk the last 6k. Planning on next year and hopefully I can break 2 hrs this time.

Re: ORW: Hotter then Hell

Great job considering the heat, I couldn't image starting at 8:45. You must have pasted us entering into Gatineau when the full and half merged. The 2hr bunny past us then and it was chaos, way too many people in the area.

I think I lost my mind - ORW Marathon

I said that when I began running that I would never do a marathon, well with some encouragement and a lot of peer pressure I signed up for the clinic and then the marathon. Up to this point the farthest I had run was 22k and that was a struggle. We ended up training in the 5:00 group since that was ...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .

Hopefully, there was not too much of a convergence between the speedy 3 hour or so marathoners and the lead pack of the half marathoners at Sussex, and last 3K along the canal, due to the earlier start time for the half marathon start time ... Hopefully, the Race Organizers will keep this as an ear...

Re: ORW Weather Forecast . . .

I am not sure I want to run my first marathon in those conditions. We have already said it will not be a race and we will be doing a Sunday slow pace. I have ran the last 2 years and the weather was brutal for the half so hopefully we will be almost done before it gets too hot.

Re: Cape to Cabot 2014

I grew up in that area and I can tell you I would never attempt that or atleast that is what I been telling myself :). A good friend of mine ran it as well as his first half, I think he maybe be done with running after this. If you look at the website for the race it shows the elevations and it's cr...

Re: If you can't take the heat .... ORW 2014

Nice finish, Todd. Often it's the things that we least expect that present the most challenges, but I'm glad your knee held up. That's a big plus. It sounds like many people were challenged by the heat this year-- and sucks that they ran out of cups at the earlier aid stations. I'm sure that made a...

If you can't take the heat .... ORW 2014

I signed up for this race knowing that this time I would be prepared. I did the 1/2 marathon clinic and finshed all the training despite the bad winter and all the knee issues I was having. I was nervous because I wasn't sure what to expect this time as I had never went into a half this prepared. I ...

Shoe Question

I finally got my orthotics yesterday and now I have a issue, I run in brooks glycerin 11's but now my heel slips in them. I have tried the lock laces and it does work a little better but I need to get new shoes anyway (I was just going to buy another pair of 11's since race weekend is so close) so I...

Need some advice

It seems I have my first real running injury. I have been having issues with my left hip and knee since the army run and finally decided I have had enough and went to see my Dr. yesterday. She really didn't know what it was but most likely muscular as my hip is really tight (I can't cross my right l...
