I get shin splints too and here is my remedy: After finishing the run, jog slowly for 2 to 3 minutes, then walk for about 3 minutes, calf stretches etc. for a good 10 minutes, then ice the worst areas, for me it is right at the bottom of my ankles and right along the tibia where the tibialis anteri...

Good luck with increasing your mileage.

Thanks for the support. I wish ice wasn't so... icy.

I don't know how these LSD people sit in a tub if ice water. Their lower ha;f must be numb from the runs.

hey it's my friend Dashy!!! =) Glad to see some action from my fellow Windsorites ;-) Take it slowly Steve, no need to rush into the program and get injured. How's your base so far? And consistency? For an October half-marathon you can start your training plan at the beginning of August (I was just...

re-introductions (AKA Augh! Shin splints!)

Hi! I'm Dashy. Well, I'm not too Dashy (about 10:30/mi). My GF (AKA Flashy, BTW) and I signed up for the Detroit Free Press Half-marathon in October. I've been a beginner for 10 years. Now I'm trying to get some distance in. I'd like to get comfortable at 20mi/wk for the month of July. I'm afraid sh...

I've had issues in the past with the muscle that runs over the side/top of the foot (from the bottom) and up to the shin. Heat and stretching helped loosen it a lot and the pain that I feared was a stress fracture went away. Thanks for your input. My calves have been very tight lately, due to poor ...

Behold, an injury! On the TOP of my foot?

I am not as dashy as my name boasts. I am not dashy at all right now, as I have a sore foot. It started the day after my longest run in a while (7.5mi @ 9:30 pace). It felt like the top of my foot was tight. Then it spread into some vague pain. I can't pinpoint it. The top of my foot simply hurts. I...

Shoe frequency

I've run 250mi since I got my Garmin in October. I probably put 50 or so miles on since I bought my shoes. They're starting to feel klunky.

Do any of you have a personal rule/preference/way to tell when it is time for new shoes?
