Re: Galloway's Run/Walk/Run Method
I started running in the days of Runners World and George Sheehan (I actually met him once.) and in a sense I am a product of that school of thought. It isn’t easy to teach a stubborn old dog new tricks but sometimes life forces change upon us. I have to keep telling myself that at my age, 72, it is...

Galloway's Run/Walk/Run Method
I haven’t posted since July of last year because I have not been running much the last couple of years due to recurring health issues as a result of complications from kidney stones. I’ve tried to get back to it a few times but was unable to sustain my efforts. Since I started running in 1977, my ap...

Re: what do you guys think about...
Major health concerns over the last two years have really impacted my running. I've had to stop for extended periods and I am struggling to get back into it yet again. I don't post very often but it check in pretty often. The site still helps keep my interest alive. I wish some of the other veteran ...

Best Boston I've ever watched!
So glad that Desi won. Yuki (the citizen runner) was unbelievable.
Huge congratulations to Krista and Reid. Go Canada!

Re: 2017 Tour de France (SPOILERS)
It's really too bad about Porte. I'm glad he's going to recover but with him out of the Tour and Sagan gone and Contador not looking good and Valverde out who's left to challenge Froome?
The rest of the Tour might be a snooze fest.
PS I agree, Aru's attack was bad form.

Something to think about: there are undoubtedly a few members of the forum, myself being one, who choose not to use Instagram, Facebook, etc. While we may be viewed as being luddites for not embracing "social media," we do so by choice. Participation rates on a number of sites such as Runn...

Re: Ed Whitlock
I was in the starting chute for the Robbie Burns Run this past January, only a few feet away from Ed Whitlock, when he acted as the race starter. I remember thinking he looked quite frail, but never having seen him in person, I didn't suspect that he was not well. I looked for him after the race but...

Ed Whitlock
I'm sad to say that I have just heard that Ed Whitlock has died.
He passed away at Princess Margaret Hospital of prostate cancer. He was an inspiration to a lot of us and will be greatly missed.

Re: Size of your running shoes
I buy my shoes with a finger's width of space beyond my big toe when standing. I don't like my toes touching the end of the shoe when running and it also helps prevent "black toe."

Re: Frosty 5K - Burlington
Thanks guys! Good job on your Frosty 5k! I was doing the chilly half which saw both groups take off at the same time, and considering I was still dealing with glute / IT band issues...managed to pull a 1hr 38 mins. Damn it was cold though with the windchill and all that :shifty: Congratulations tayk...

Frosty 5K - Burlington
I ran in the Burlington Frosty 5K this past weekend. It was a well-organized fun event with over 700 participants. The weather was sunny but surprisingly cold. I hadn’t run this race since 2009 and the weather had been sort of nasty the last couple of years. So I waited until last week to enter hopi...

38th Robbie Burns Run – 8K - Burlington, Ontario
I missed last year’s race due to a serious health issue, so I was eager to run the race this year. As luck would have it, I injured my foot in a non-running incident and couldn’t run for about two weeks in December. I trained as well as I could in January, running 84 kilometres outside and on the tr...

I ran in Asics Hyperspeed 5's in 2013. I currently run in Hyperspeed 6's. They have just enough cushioning for me without a big heel-toe drop and are light weight.

Re: Tour de France 2016
Dull? Yesterday was gangbusters! Sure Froome recovered after dumping it, but just him going down added to the drama, not to mention the massive battle for the rest of the podium. Today should be awesome too, so much climbing and ends with a descent - sketchy. Hoping Bardet holds on to 2nd jono True...

Re: Tour de France 2016
Last chance tomorrow for anyone to shake things up.
So far it's been pretty dull. The scenery is nice but except for Froome's get away down that mountain, it's been a bit ... meh.
Contador retired. Richie Porte keeps having bad luck. Where's Qintana when we need him?

Should be big days for the GC boys today and tomorrow. I'll say! Froome's downhill attack was friggin' awesome! jono That position on the bike was insane, especially when he was pedaling while stradling the top tube. I've never seen anyone pedal that much while riding in that position ... sca...

25th Annual Burlington Moon in June 5K
Over the past six months, my running had not been going very well, to say the least. Major and minor health concerns had interfered with my running and even completely stopped it for extended periods. I had registered for the Robbie Burns 8K in January but was unable to participate due to illness. T...

Thanks for the advice. The arch is important, eg. I can't wear Nikes because the arch is just wrong for me.
