Re: New to running!
All my running is in Vancouver area so I don’t have any advice for -20 weather. As others have indicated layers are key. The few -10 runs I’ve done have been pretty much variation on my usual running gear. Heavier tights, some kind of shell or wind breaker , a thicker long sleeve shirt/sweat shirt a...

Re: Runners Knee Pain ( PFPS)
Hi all. Few months ago ( March) I developed bilateral knee pain/tenderness right knee, assessed by sport doc, xray done which was normal. Diagnosed with SIJ Dysfunction (Dysfunction in the sacroiliac joint) with leg descrepency ( right shorter than left) causig PFPS (Patellofemoral pain syndrome ),...

Re: Got out early THURSDAY
Pretty late run here - 6pm. I haven't been sleeping that well lately so I have been feeling really tired the last few days. If I had realized earlier how tired I was feeling I would have skipped tonight's run but I knew there would only be a couple of us so I decided to tough it out. Run was ok but ...

Re: Super Tempo Saturday
I amazed myself again. Even though yesterday was a somewhat difficult 23 miles; I jumped out of the box and ran fast for 2h14 minutes today, at 11 min/mile pace. Well, 11 min/mile is fast for me. That is amazing, I did nothing yesterday and I only managed 14k today at about the same speed. My movin...

Re: Calf stretches
The Physio I see showed me a great way to work the calves using your knee. Just lean against your couch or chair and use your knee to massage the muscles. The knee can get in deep between the muscles and for me this works better than rolling or lacrosse ball. I find this great and it doesn’t take a...

Re: Soggy Sunday
Today was definitely soggy. It really didn’t bother me while we were running, it was that steady drizzle that completely saturated every pore but we only ran about 10k so it wasn’t long enough to get too miserable. As usual, the cold and clammy grossness happened while we stopped for coffee and then...

A nice easy 10k with the gang, it was raining while we were waiting to start but let up by the time we were ready to run. It was nice to just run without any training objective. Now just have to see if we can keep motivated through the rest of a wet November.

Re: Do you run in the rain?
I live in Vancouver. If I didn't run in the rain, I'd be missing half the year. It's not my favourite, but it's a necessity. With that said, the hardest part is getting out the door. Once I'm out and warmed up, it's great. The rain is refreshing and keeps you from overheating, and once you're...

Re: Sweat out the Sickness Sunday :P
Didn’t have time to run with the gang this morning but the day was so gorgeous I had to take advantage of it this afternoon.
I picked a navigationally challenging route so I ended up running a km or so longer than intended. 8k done plus close to a km before I actually turned on my watch.

I did 20k on an absolutely lovely fall morning. The leaves have been so beautiful in Vancouver this year. Two weeks until Las Vegas Half Marathon. The organizers are still in the midst of making some changes to route and pre-race concert due to the shooting. It is going to be a very different event ...

This was my favourite overblown news feature related to the Montreal Marathon. "Runners flock to Rimouski after Montreal marathon cancelled over heat concerns" The registration for the Rimouski Marathon saw a "surge" in registration as Montreal marathoners looked for a replacemen...

Re: Montreal marathon cancelled...
How'd it go?? I went for a 15k run early morning thinking I'd beat the heat - I didn't. Even at +18C in the a.m. sun it was so hot, steamy. Was thinking of y'all. :) jono It was pretty toasty, the open hydrants every 3-5k were welcome. The news was a bit overblown, in the end I think something like...

Pretty toasty Demi Marathon in Montreal. Started just before 8, finished in 2:19. Race was quite a bit bigger than I expected, good organization, lots of hydrants open along the course to cool the runners.

Re: Montreal marathon cancelled...
I had avoided considering Montreal Marathon in the past because of possibility of hot, humid weather. I am registered for the half and will go ahead and run it. Hopefully it won't be too hot by 9:45 ish when I should be finishing. I was just down in Old Montreal looking at one stretch of the race th...

Re: Back to school Tuesday
The smoke from various forest fires has moved back into the skies around Vancouver making for very interesting light all day. The haze kept the temperatures a bit cooler which made the humidity a bit more bearable. Did our usual Tuesday night 6ish km, it was starting to feel tough by the end, the ai...

I thought everyone did that on their running shoes.
It's probably more common for women with narrow heels.

Definitely hot here, not too smoky today. Did a 8ish k run to Deer Lake, I spent a lot of time staring at the path in front of my feet but I did look up at one point to take in the fabulous view of the lake with the north shore mountains in the background. It is days like this when I am amazed at wh...

Lovely 18k run today, ran to and then down the Arbutus corridor and ended up at Granville Island. It was perfect weather, warm and sunny but with a nice refreshing breeze. We got to Granville Island just as they were turning on the water at the water park so I got to ice my knees and ankles.

12k roundabout commute home. Time was pretty slow as the route was mostly uphill.
It was a warm day but I could mostly keep to the shade.
