Re: Time for Tuesday

Supposed to do a tempo run tonight, but legs are so tired and achy for some reason, so I'm really not up for it. I may try to compromise and get outside for some kind of running, but not necessarily a fast one. It's 2 weeks to the STWM half, so I'm hoping that the hay is in the barn already :?

Re: Question on shoes Kayano or Nirvana or Pro grid Hurricane???

I've tried to use Holabird in the past, but I keep getting a screen telling me that they don't deliver my shoes (Asics) to Canada. Are the rest of you ordering to a U.S. address? Call their toll free number. It's some little rule that they don't sell to Canadian customers "online." If you...

Re: new solution for carrying nutrition?

I have the same 'fuel belt' race belt as CinC from the RR, haven't used it yet though. I am going to try using one gel flask module from my amphipod on this belt - feels very light and comfortable in the house, but needs to be road tested. It does also have the elastic loops for sticking gels throug...

Re: S. A. TUR. DAY... thread

Took me all day to convince myself I wanted to run, but it ended up being a great one - 12.4km steady run at 5:07min/km. A good test of what I hope will be race pace at the Scotia Waterfront half in 3 weeks, and good practice at pacing myself based on perceived effort 8)

Mid_Packer, that's a great idea on trying out 3 loops of the toad to test a longer distance. I will think about that for next year - thanks! With respect to the bib issue, it sounds like the race organizers are ok with people transferring bibs, but they will not change the registration to update the...

Re: Run for the Road vs Vulture Bait

I really want to do a 25K trail race this fall - which is a better experience in your opinion? I would probably be crazy to go with the Toad since I am running the STWM half the week before, but I keep getting intrigued by the hype. Are both courses doable for beginners? My point of comparison is H...

Do any of you know whether any of the trails will be open to the public during the race? Just wondering whether my husband could take his bike out while I'm racing. I am 80% in for the Enduro. I made my long run a trail run the last couple of weeks and lived to the tell the tale, so I think I can do...

Training at the moment i am following Hal Higdons Intermediate II Plan http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/inter2.html with a little bit of added mileage peaking at about 50 miles per week but generally more around 40. After the marathon in September (with hopefully under 3:45) I am going to switch t...

Its a great first trail race. Mostly sandy hilly terrain. The hills make the challenge, it is best to be well trained for them but it is not a rocky, technical, dangerous course. Roots at worst. Fun though! That's great to know, thanks! I may give it a shot. My half training is going well so I thin...

I still can't decide between running the half at Waterfront or Goodlife, so I am leaning toward doing both - racing Waterfront and then taking a more leisurely approach to Goodlife to enjoy the experience. They will be only my 2nd and 3rd races, so I'll have to wait and see whether I can pull off a ...

I often go to a local independent store for their bi-weekly runs. No need to join, or go regularly, just when it suits me. Wednesday night tempo runs there is usually a group around my speed. I don't bother going Saturdays for the longer run, I prefer to be flexible. There is a well regarded runnin...

Thanks for the advice everyone! I guess I knew rest was the smart approach but needed a little convincing. Strider: I am not sure what is the root cause, but believe it cropped up when I started speedwork. I was training with the RR and I don't think we phased in the speedwork gradually enough for m...

Shin splints - rest or train through?

So, I ran the Mississauga Half a week and a half ago and felt good during the race but have had shin splints since. My shins were a bit achy leading up to the race, but at the time it was pretty mild. Since then, the pain has been a lot sharper, particularly on stairs. I've been taking it easy...

Amphipod

So, I need to purchase a water belt, and I like what I've heard about amphipod (and what I've read on old threads on this site). For those that have an amphipod belt, any tips on which version to get (e.g., 2 vs 3 vs 4 bottles)? I will be using it for long runs of about half marathon distance, but c...
