Re: Cool or Not Cool?

The daisy chain ladies... I mean, as long as they only joined hands in the last 4 or 5 strides before the finish line, who are they bothering? It's pretty rare for anyone to be sprinting in the final metres of a marathon (sprinting the final metres of a marathon: cool or not cool?), so I can't imag...

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

Alright, I guess I'm done obsessing. For now.

Is there anything this ridiculous in Canada I should know about? I know about the Death Race... sounds similarly ridiculous. That 50k version of the Barkley has piqued my interest. :)

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

... the only thing I'm thinking is maybe he took that trail called "CT" by accident, over to the left edge of the map... then came down, and cut across on the road (thus coming from the wrong direction). Assuming there's a river there somewhere, of course. But again this isn't east, it's w...

Date of the article is April 1st... please tell me it's a joke.

Poor guy, but he recognizes it was his doing/undoing.

Gawd that could have ended so badly... sleep deprived Canadian drowns in raging river. Kind of lucky, in a sense.

On the bright side...what doesn't kill him, can only make him stronger. A cliche', but true Not necessarily true. The stress fracture in my left leg did not kill me but it definitely made me weaker. The enlarged heart from too much running did not kill me, but increased the risks of heart issues an...

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

I just watched the finish line video. He says he has all the checkpoint pages, but he went the wrong way in the fog. So confusing and heartbreaking. He must be devastated. In that video, race director dude said he came along the wrong trail so the 6 seconds didn't matter - implying going off-course...

Canadian Running Magazine is there, they have it as 6 seconds in their headline... that's so nuts.

Ha you're all over the place with this one! :) I think you will find both the running and cycling communities have their good and bad eggs. Tyler is one of my favourites, he seems just so relateable and down to earth (and humble(d)). When you hear guys who love cycling in all its forms talk about bi...

Nothing about that team was particularly "right"... very not normal. Too many guys who were muddling domestiques their entire careers who could suddenly climb like they had the wings of angels.

I also find the longer I'm at it, the less interested I am in paying to enter organized events (especially given the way prices have gone up up and away). The local 5k has zero appeal to me now, I'll pick a couple of key bigger events but that's about it. Not sure if others are the same? jono I'm l...

Re: Running on Road - When Legal vs not?

The way I read it, the first (2) is basically saying that if you are on a road without a sidewalk, you have to travel facing traffic unless it isn't reasonable and practicable to do so. To me, the second (2) is basically saying that pedestrians are not allowed to be on a road with traffic if it is ...

Your widow would have had an excellent case against the driver: Maybe Alberta Use of Highway and Use of Road Regulations: 90(1) When a sidewalk or path is located beside a roadway, a pedestrian (a) shall at all times when it is reasonable and practicable to do so use the sidewalk or path, and (b) s...

Running on Road - When Legal vs not?

Does anyone have a decent source for Canadian-specific legal opinions on this? I tried googling but have come up fairly empty, only U.S. stuff. I did find this in the Ontario Highway Traffic Act (which defines any roadway as a "highway"): Duties of pedestrian when walking along highway 179...

That's a pretty significant drop-off.., you're probably on to the right ideas, younger folks probably aren't as excited about the local 5k/10k/etc. That's what their parents do so it's inherently lame. ;) I also find the longer I'm at it, the less interested I am in paying to enter organized events ...

Re: Lanni Marchant lashes out at those who focus on her look

She actually missed the Canadian standard for the marathon. Ah, I hadn't realized that you were referring to 2012. I think "sue" is an inaccurate description of the use of Athletics Canada's appeal procedures and based on their own "rising star" terminology, the appeal wasn't fr...
