Re: Saucony Triumph vs. Kinvara . . .

I haven't tried both but I went from the Asics Nimbuses (I'm sure that they're at least a 12 mm drop...super cushy) to the Kinvara 3's last summer. I was advised by Solefit to try any newer minimalist shoe gradually, even for 30 sec/1 min at a time, and then build from there. Based on my run assessm...

Re: The ARK 50?

Funny I ran off to check when IOD is this year. Looks to be Nov 3 so I'd be home. I'd like to have an idea of the course, if its anything near Camp Fortune I couldn't do 25k let alone 50. Pretty darn hilly from what I've heard, although I've never been up there. Mike changes up the course a bit wit...

Cool! Not that I'll be doing the 50K but that will be a nice option for the local mountain goats.

Re: Bike Racks?

This post is timely -- I have an SUV, and we have a roof rack, but I find it very difficult to get my bike on the roof rack by myself given the height of the vehicle to begin with. Does anyone know if there is another option (other than hitch), for the back of an SUV. I want it to be sturdy (of cou...

Re: Bike Racks?

Long story but I've tried 3 Saris racks on my 2007 Civic - all hitch-mounted. I've tried the T-Bones 3 (now discontinued), the Thelma 3 and now the Thelma 2. They have a life-time warranty with Saris and I highly recommend them. Some friends have the roof-mounted racks but the majority of my triath...

I am a very happy Saris Bones 3 user, fits on the trunk. Not a roof or hitch mount. Fits on just about anything, sedan to wagon. http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Cycling/CarRacksBikeBoxes/TrunkMountedRacks/PRD~5028-847/saris-bones-3-bicycle-rack.jsp http://saris.com/en/bike-racks/vehicle-racks/trunk-r...

Re: purple toe nail

Some good suggestions, scrummie. I'm a bit hesitant to go up a 1/2 size since the fit is fine for my right foot. This issue doesn't tend to manifest until after 15 km after I've done at least 3-5 runs in them. I have very short nails on my hands and feet since I can't stand long nails. The length of...

Re: purple toe nail

I have the same problem with my left foot in Brooks Glycerins. I went back to my Nimbuses for the time being and haven't had any issues, although my black toe nail is still there and hasn't come off yet. I'm bumping this thread since I need some shoe recommendations. Although the obvious is to go b...

Re: Trail Races in the Ottawa/Gatineau Area ...

See, it might be 'Ottawa area' , but it takes me about an hour to drive to Fortune from Barrhaven. I'm just not that interested in doing that for a 6k race (and the longer ones are too hard for me). Same with the Ark. Good race, just way too far away. Last Chance Triathlon (part of Somersault) is b...

Re: Trail Races in the Ottawa/Gatineau Area ...

Carm, do you have any specific routes in Gatineau that you would recommend? I know the trail network is huge . . . I'm far from an expert. Strider would be the Maniac to ask about routes since he's our local mountain goat, but I can suggest a couple that are good for beginner/intermediates. I was t...

Re: Trail Races in the Ottawa/Gatineau Area ...

I saw that this morning. It's pretty sad how few trail runners there are in the region compared to road runners. Mike's definitely right when he says that most people would rather do 10k on the road than do a trail race. Most of my long runs in the Gats before my car accident involved only 1-3 other...

Re: How cold is too cold?

Same as jes, -30 (including wind-chill) degrees C. Any colder and your body starts tingling like crazy when you're just walking from your work building to your car. Cold tolerance is a personal thing as mentioned above. If you decide to start running in winter (e.g. this week) then you'll suffer but...

No, eme, say it ain't so!!! If you don't use it swimming, you should be ok using it outdoors with a small crack. I've been using mine and it's been fine. I've considered finding a screen cover or buying the material and then cutting it out to protect the crack from moisture etc. I'll let you know w...

Yes, pretty much. That and a crappy design that Garmin is well aware of, I'm sure.

Thanks for posting the kit link! I paid more than $15 when I bought mine 2+ years ago.
