How do I get started?

What do I need to get started? How do I know how far/fast/often to run? Is this going to be expensive?

Karin well, I've made a FAQ board now, and I need your guys' help filling it up! I started with a couple of questions and think ...

What kind of shoes should I buy?

How do I know which shoes to get? What's the best brand? Do I have to spend a ton of money to get good shoes?

good deal

I just saw the Saucony Grid Hurricane's in the Coast Mountain Sports flyer: $90 instead of $170. I know lots of people wear those, so if you do, check it out. :)

- I really liked the race report section at "that other place", but always wanted another section where people gave accounts of the event itself, separate from their personal performance. That way someone 'shopping' for their next race could check it out to get opinions and recommendations without ...

Holly, This is fantastic! I would not have the slighest clue where to even begin to create a message board. Kudos to you for taking it upon yourself. I have no doubt it will grow to become a fantastic place  Well I didn't create it. The application is pre-developed by someone else and I just s...

Would we want someone so sensitive as to be offended by "running addicts' on here anyway? :) well, I don't want to alienate anyone unnecessarily... substance addictions can be quite serious and debilitating, so I understand why some would be sensitive about it. However, the word "addict" is used in...

Re: Caution ;)

Not sure *actual* former addicts would find that particularly amusing? hmmm... I wonder if it would be a problem. The substance addicts/recovering addicts I know don't tend to be sensitive about the word "addict" (and yet, they're REALLY sensitive about words like "pipe"). But we can think about so...

you're on the right track, but they might be a little long (maybe not, though).

for best results, the domain should have "run" in it somewhere and be really simple.

any suggestions for what we could call this besides "running forum"? if we have a good name we can get a domain name and that makes for better exposure.

Wright Sock, double layer. Mine started off as white, but they are now funky coloured, does that count? :P I hate those socks... I wore them on my first half-marathon and my feet felt SO hot and... stuffed up (is that possible with feet?). I need thin ones. of course, the double layers might be goo...

what's everyone's favourite running sock?

Mine is the DeFeet Aerate. They are great--light, fitted, meshed for circulation. I love them and wear them on all my long runs. Plus you can get them in funky colours!
