WPS NO SNOW!

What a glorious day, no snow, not much wind, scenic course. I knew alot of people on course and those that were cheering. I am happy with my comeback year. This is my fourth race in 5 weeks, all were run solid and this one I felt the smoothest, even paced and relaxed. Its also nice to have a solid s...

A 5 a 10 and A 15K followed by a soon to be 1/2

Just finished the Puma Series on Sunday. The good news is my times are not far off from the same series in 2005 when I set all my Prs. The bad news is, I am 4 years older, it felt harder, took longer to recover AND I am near the top of my age group with girls that run 10ks in 40mins..So placing 3rd ...

Motivation

With up coming racing season and as we all emerge from the deep freeze most of our motivation has probably taken a beating. Motivation is simply - The reason for an action - That which gives purpose and direction to behaviour. Motivation is “WHAT drives you” to behave in a certain way or to take a p...

Its whatever the body can handle and whatever amount of time you have to devote to running. I have read many articles for masters runners "less is better". I run with a girl who is 51 and she living proof of this, but its what works for her body, her free time. The theory from the 70s was you had to...

Its mental for me, I generally run faster at the end of a race, workout, no matter what, because the end is near and I like to lay it all out there with nothing left and sometimes I am just not confident to start that surge in the middle of a race, or workout thinking..well I still need to conserve ...

Experts say you can get away with 3 quality workouts, speed, tempo and long. When I have a marathon on my plate then its 6 days. In my off season I still do about 30 miles but shorter runs more often. I still think the key to a good marathon time is lots of miles if your body can hold up. I am hopin...

My best year THUS far was 2005. After a 10 year hiatus from racing I joined a strong masters running group in Nov 2003 and trained with faster smarter women and learned everything I could from them, did my homework and set most of my PRs in every distance that summer. I trained a good 18 months befo...

Hugs to you! I know exactly how you feel. I felt this way living in Florida, getting used to it, the heat etc, loving it and then being yanked out of it and plopped back in Winnipeg (evil corporate job).
Take care of yourself, enjoy the race!

Off to a good 2009 motivation wise, weather wise, not so good. Ran 9 miles yesterday in about 15 cms of fresh powder, very much a slog, lots of slipping and sliding but a good all around body workout just staying up right. Did a 6 mile "recovery run" in a new PR windchill for me -43. AND have a love...

Back from Zen runner and ready to bring it on. Not very glamourous '09 planned but will use alot of the Manitoba races for tempo runs and plan to blow it all out at Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis for a marathon PR as I approach mid age in my age group, then will lay low until 45 (1 yr afte Twin...

I agree with KBO, the last couple of miles did me in, like I wasn't already done in early than this but nonetheless to have to dodge around the half marathon walkers and run behind the main street in some construction zone in the bowels of Las Vegas add insult to injury. Just sayin'! Didn't like the...

For the record I respect any race and anyone who races no matter how good or bad they do. Its all about the ducks lining up right on that day. Water fowl is very important. You can have a fantastic marathon but tank in a 5K if its not your day. From reliable sources (guys who do IMs in under 10 hours...
