Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

Well it sounds like he also didn't cover the actual course, so even if he had made it under 60:00:00 it wouldn't be official? He approached the gate from the wrong direction so he wasn't on the right trail at the end. Then again he had all the pages from the checkpoints so I'm not sure. Heartbreaki...

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

Heartbreaking- he didn't finish in time.

Updates are saying that he's in now but may have gone off course.

Still an amazing accomplishment, but it must be tough to have it end like that!

John is in! Apparently the first thing he said when he hit the gate was "Where is Gary?"

Loop 4 done! Gary and John are the only ones left-- finished loop 4 at 46:26. It will be a tight final loop -- wonder if they can do it!!

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

The race seems signicantly harder this year than last year. According to some tweets, some say there is little chance anyone will finish. Gary and John are the only two that have a chance in finishing the whole thing- we'll see how they are doing when they finish lap 3. They might be the only ones w...

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

Race started at 1:42 am EDT this morning.
Gary is on his third lap now, having finished lap 2 with John Kelly in 20:18. They took 55 minutes at camp before heading out for lap 3.
So far so good...

Re: Around the Bay - Who's in....

It does seem that many people do not get why cheating in races in this way would be a big deal to other people. It does not fall in the same category as cheating on a test, for sure-- but many people don't seem to get that these events are athletic competitions and that times do matter. Did she real...

No chance- no average joes in this race.
In all 32 years there have been less than 20 finishers TOTAL (40 entrants each year).

"The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

I watched this documentary on Netflix yesterday on the advice of a friend-- I can't believe I had never heard of this race. It is legendary in the ultra-community. I highly recommend the movie! http://barkleymovie.com/ The Barkley Marathons ultra-marathon covers 100 miles total in the mountains of T...

Re: Feeling blah when running - is there a better way?

So far no one has mentioned pace or effort. Oftentimes new runners (or on-again/off-again runners) have an expectation of how fast they think they should be going (based on outside influence or what they used to do). If your runs feel bad and you feel spent by 5K, it might be that you are trying to...

Re: What is this foot injury called and how can I fix it?

After resting all winter it would have been wise to ease back into running more gradually. Tissues need time to adapt to the load. It's hard to diagnose what your injury is, but rest might not be the right thing. Often some sort of movement will help healing. If I were you I would see a good athleti...

Re: Julie Miller now running ultras

to continue the analogy, a person doesn't need to be banned for life from having a relationship again, but full disclosure is important so that the next potential relationship-participant can make an informed decision. And again, the assumption is that the cheater has admitted they did it, are remo...

Sorry for going off topic Way out of line, in my opinion. An 86 year-old dying of cancer is hardly an unnatural tragedy that warrants proselytizations about how best to eat and exercise. There are other places on this board for you to post that. Hopefully the mods will remove these posts so that th...

How many will forgive a spouse that cheats Or in this case, divorce them and have them banned from any future relationship. Ian- by your "slippery slope" argument she really should only receive punishment for the event(s) she cheated in. That she should be disqualified and removed from th...
