Re: Julie Miller now running ultras

Low key and casual is good for being welcoming into the community, allowing people to run even if they can't complete a course in the official time, etc. But low-key and casual doesn't mean ultra-runners would accept a documented cheater. I certainly wouldn't want to see her in a race that I was in ...

Re: Low Hemaglobin

So, I have been wondering why all of a sudden I find myself being out of breathe, sluggish and inability to push harder when I run. I had a blood test done early this week and the results came back showing my Hemaglobin count lower than the start of the scale for an adult male. Meaning - Anemia (lo...

Yeah I agree. I don't buy the idea that we can be put in such absolute categories.

Re: "The Secret Life of Fat"

The difference in your two scenarios is not the word "willpower." It's the word "try." That's what gives you the out, not calling it "willpower." Willpower is just what we call our mental conviction. In the first scenario, it takes willpower to follow through with your ...

Re: Willpower- For me I think about it terms of mental energy and the ability to focus on many things at once, but it's basically the same thing-- I find I don't have the mental energy to focus on too many goals in my life at once before I start to feel stressed and paralyzed. Right now work is taki...

Re: "The Secret Life of Fat"

I was mostly interested in the biochemistry part of it where she was talking about how your caloric need actually changes if you have gone from being a much higher weight to a lower weight. It's like we want to yell out "it's not fair!" but at least if we know, we can make adjustments to o...

"The Secret Life of Fat"

I listened to this interesting podcast with the author of the book "The Secret Life of Fat" (Dr. Sylvia Tara) http://anothermotherrunner.com/2017/02/17/248-the-secret-life-of-fat-podcast-author-sylvia-tara-ph-d/ Among other things she talks about hormonal changes that take place when we lo...

Re: Family Day Monday

Did a longer run today, since I wasn't feeling up to it yesterday. I love Monday holidays. 90 minutes outside for me (about 13.5K).

Still haven't heard anything about the virtual half-marathon that will replace the First Half. I was planning on doing that next week.

Yes, it's too bad, but there was nothing else they could do. Re: Peroneal tendon

Peroneal tendon ruptures are fairly common, even if nobody has posted here. I would get a second opinion from a good physiotherapist to see if you can fix it without surgery-- those odds aren't good!

Good luck figuring this out-- you've been suffering too long.

To answer the original question-- any time I've ever done a running streak it's by time, not distance.

That's too bad. I don't know anyone with the FR35, but I know quite a few people in my HR training group who use the 235 or 735xt and find they work really well. I have the 235 and its awesome. When I first got it I used it a few times with my old watch and chest strap, and the results were almost t...

What would be cool is if each blog-writer had a theme that they came back to each month. So that if we start to get a following for it, people can expect certain themes from certain writers.

I would love to have a handful of people commit to say 1 blog post per month. A variety of topics and perspectives. They could all go on the site and would draw more people in and give discussion fodder. I can commit to one blog post per month. I will have to think of some topics. :) Some things I ...

I have to say- other than the colour scheme, the design actually seems fine and doesn't really need much further customization.
People like the simplicity and mobile responsive design. :)

Anyway-- thanks for working on it.

I think there are other better places online that people go for things like classifieds and running routes. And some of the other ones just seem to attract a lot of spam. I'm all for getting rid of those sub-forums. It would be nice to expand the resources and articles though. I would be willing to ...

She is also asking this question: 'If I'm sexy, does that make me a sell-o...

This is a 2-year old post, but MEC has offered the series now for a few years and they keep getting better. They also have triathlons. I still wouldn't register for a whole series, because the timing of some of the races wouldn't work for me. But even as single races they offer great value. The ones...

I Generally I love it! I found it really accurate for the outdoor activities, but I have to figure out how to adjust the stride length to make it more accurate for the treadmill (I have a short stride so it thinks I'm going further than I am). Since the accelerometer is supposed to autocalibrate wh...
