Terry Fox Run - 2010

Listen up Maniacs !! It has just been announced that in September 2010, the 30th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope, the Confederation Bridge (NB-PEI or PEI-NB if you prefer) will, for only the third time in its history, be closed to vehicular traffic to allow runners/walkers the chance to cross th...

Great effort in the swim eme . Sorry to read that the rest of the race didn't go as planned but there'll be lots of others I'm sure.

Babysteps - no Try-a-Tri although I have plans to email the race director and suggest one be added. A 750m lake swim seems a pretty big hurdle for a lot of non-swimmers to deal with. That said, I'm proof it can be done as my max continuous distance on January 3rd when I started to prepare was probab...

My First Tri (pics added)

Completed my first tri today - the Duncan Hadley Memorial - held here in Fredericton. Here's my report: Got to the race site early (7:00) and got a prime spot for my bike and got all my transition gear set up. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k100/freddybeachpete/DSC00288.jpg Rumour amongst the ear...

FBP's Manitoba Marathon Relay (Leg 3) Report

Had a great time at the Manitoba Marathon as part of RunningManiaDotCalm. Pre-race M&G was fantastic - great to meet Prairiekid, Mouse, Mikeruns, Garth, Eme, HCiD, Dwayne, Agent P and so many others. Thanks for making Myra (Myras Marathon) her race partner Jess and her guide dog caramel so welco...

Thanks Manitoba Maniacs !

Wanted to say how much I enjoyed meeting some of the Manitoba Maniacs and other assembled Maniacs from Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Dryden, etc. when I was in Winnipeg 10 days ago. The marathon relay was a blast !!

Diabetes 5k

Had a great day for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk/Run To Cure Diabetes. Held in the town of Oromocto, right next to Canadian Forces Base Gagetown. Over 100 registered for the 5k run and several hundred others for the 5k walk. Most of the runners were Military Engineers (Chimo!!) and...

First In Line

I just registered for my first (outdoor) triathlon - the Duncan Hadley Memorial held here in Fredericton on July 6th - and I was the first person to register. That's got to be good karma! For you experienced dark siders - when I registered it asked whether I wanted to be in the "beginner wave" and I...

Re: bike name

Okay, explain to me: What's the purpose of giving a name to a bike? Isn't that kétaine? Am I correct that ketaine means in bad taste or some such thing? (Perhaps it could be the Word of the Week on my favourite CBC radio show - C'est La Vie with Bernard St-Laurant.) Why did I name my bike? As furth...

FBP and Mrs FBP - Fredericton Half

After some sketchy weather the past couple of days it turned out to be perfect today. Due to recent flooding the course was changed back to the one used in 2006. Fine by me 'cause it is an out and back so you get to see everyone at least once in passing! Big field of competitors - close to 300 in th...

Fredericton M&G

Command decision ...

Fredericton M&G will be on Sunday at 12 noon at the Snooty Fox pub (Regent Street near Queen). Look for the Running Mania flag if (like me) you wonder whether you'll recognize any of your on-line teammates.

See y'all then
