I also tend to run very close to the control panel, both so that I can control the thing and out of a bit of fear of going off the back. If you can allow yourself to move back on the 'mill a bit, you may have more room for a natural stride and natural arm swing.

I don't know if that's the only nutrition that poster took in (I agree it wouldn't be enough) - I just liked the idea of the taunting.

If there's a grosser food than sharkies I don't know what it is. Good for you but with the taste of jellied sweat.

Late report from Calgary - seconding Plod-Along, it's 11 freaking degrees out there. Our weather is so unlike what the rest of you are getting its embarrassing. I actually went and looked it up - we had 5 cm of snow in December and none so far in January. I agree that we'll pay for this later, proba...

Just to second one thing from LaDeChat - one goal for your LSDs should be to determine your nutrition strategy for the race. There's no one right answer and you have to determine what is right for you. For me, its gels during walk breaks and only for races longer than the half marathon. I can't stom...

Jelly Beans et al: We're professional, educated, type A personalities incapable of moderation. We're incapable of going for a short run - we're marathoners We're incapable of going for a short bike ride - we do centuries We're incapable of having a single drink (at least in my 20's) without getting ...

RR Running Clinic

A colleague of mine is instructing a group at the Running Room here in Calgary. It's the half marathon clinic, I don't know which location. She asked me (I don't know why) what advice I had for her on how to be an effective instructor. I've never done a RR clinic before so I just gave her advice fro...

10 miles LSD on pathways down by the river. Perfect night.

The YMCA was insane with New Years resolutioners. I heard the same from two colleagues about two other downtown gyms. I'm sure it'll ease off in a week or two but it's a crazy time of year to get to the gym

Good ones - I'd missed the "jam bands" like Phish and DMB in my list. A ridiculously long violin solo really chews up the miles.

I'm in (distance to be determined) I totally second you on the course - I finished the half in 1:50 and the group I was with ran right into the bulk of the 10k runners at the Louise Bridge. I suspect the timing got messed up i.e. they thought the 10k runners would be through by the time the half run...

The Forgotten Rebels!

I had no idea they were still around. They used to play gigs in crappy places in Hamilton in the 80s and I assumed they had vanished to the same place that all of our local bands (like the Spoons) vanished to.

Agree with HCD. I would plan a "slow" day on Monday and Tuesday - lots of rest breaks, lots of hydration, lots of eating, and some time for walking around. I would not plan to do the Grouse Grind or anything strenous. I would also prepare for the possibility that you won't be able to do a thing but ...

I think it looks like a great plan.

My only suggestion - I would ensure that you get the hills in regularly. I'd rather the Wednesday run be a short hilly run than a long flattish run.

I've become a fan of the All Bran with strawberry filling - no added sugar and just a bit of fruit to counter the cardboard taste / texture of the cereal.

I might have to make a trip east - the half course actually goes by my Mom's house in burlington.

Although the Running Room says the course is 23.3 km long, takes 44 minutes and costs $3.23???

I was there as well and ran in just under 40 minutes. As usual I started too far back and picked my way through strollers, dogs, and other such types for the first 10 minutes or so. The little loop over Princes Island spooked me a bit. Without knowing what the footing would be, and with the darkness...

The big loop on our local lake (Bonavista) is open so I did a bunch of laps on the outdoor rink then 1 big l...
