Re: Slainte Summer Classic (Hamilton) 2011

Oh yeah, the course is basically 3K of flat at the top of the mountain (you start at a school and run a loop around the top) and then 2K of breakneck downhill to the finish.

Re: Slainte Summer Classic (Hamilton) 2011

It's the same as the St. Patrick's day course, which means that you pick up your kit and catch the shuttle at Slainte pub. You get bussed to the top of the mountain, and then you run down it and end at the pub. I would aim to arrive 1.5 to 2 hours before the start of the race in order to pick up you...

Re: Dirty Girls 2011

Thanks folks. I know I'll definitely need to focus on not spending too much time at the aid stations and start/finish. I figure it's better to walk and eat then stand around and eat. At least I'm moving forward then.

Re: Dirty Girls 2011

Hey Maryka how are you planning on pacing the 24 hours? I'm hoping to get 70 or 80K in before dark. Last year I did 60K in 11.5 hours. I was running the first half with my running buddy and we kind of lollygagged a bit so I figure I can definitely get in closer to 70 (or more) in 12 hours. Then that...

Re: Run for the Toad

Sandra the fee doesn't go up for the Toad. It's definitely worth the money for the atmosphere alone, but you also get great food at the aid stations, a fantastic meal afterwards, and a medal and registration gift (typically it's been a backpack or duffel bag, but who knows what it will be this year).

Re: Homemade electrolyte drinks...but no/less sugar

I know the Thrive books (Brendan Brazier) have some recipes for gels and drinks etc. You could try googling, and if you don't find them I could type some out for you when I get home as I have the books. Might be good motivation to get them out and start reading them again! :D

Re: Run for the Toad - Training Run

Country girl you can do the training run and not do the race. We did that last year as we were in Scotland when the race was occurring.

Re: Run for the Toad - Training Run

The training run is loads of fun and typically gets more runners than a lot of small races. I will be there and plan on running 25K.

Yikes. I will likely never be able to run the 50K there then if it remains like this. I can't even run a road 50K that fast

Re: How did you get started and tips

See if there are any clinics or even running groups in your area that run trails. Remember that running trails is different than running road. You have to pay attention to your surroundings and the ground and pick up your feet! Most people tend to run slower on trails than on road (note that I said ...

Re: ITT

I remember that there was an early start available last year (1 hr). I was planning on using it but ended up not running the race due to a stress fracture. Who knows why they've selected that time frame. As a back of the packer unfortunately it puts a little bit of added pressure on. There are some ...

Thanks Doonst. I think I will just need to be conscious of the 3 hour restriction and if I need to slow down in the last 11K that's fine.

ITT

I see from the race website that the 32K runners must be at the 21K turnaround by 10:30 (3 hours). I am just wondering how technical of a course this is. Since it is a "shorter" distance I figure I will be able to push it a bit more than say a 50K so I should be able to get it done before ...

I hope to one day enter the state of mind that Queenga appears to be in where "feels like 37" is good race weather. If anyone is looking for me, I'll be the one on the course that wild animals are using as a salt lick.

Re: Kingston 6 hour

The wheels fell off for me at around 2 hours at this race, and I ended up doing *a lot* of walking. I managed to squeeze in 40K but could have done a lot more I think. My feet were my biggest problem. Too much pounding on the pavement for me. I think I need to invest in some of those crazy moon shoe...
