Re: Speed, or endurance what's more beneficial to focus on?
my recommendation is to consult a training guide or plan (just google '12 months to Ironman training or something like that) - for example: http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/news/articles/2013/05/six-months-to-ironman-a-basic-training-program.aspx#axzz3BnESTYex" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

Re: Challenge Penticton
My beef is with Penticton's delusional council, who punted a 30 year race only to replace it with an event that draws 1/3 the number of athletes... if their goal was tourism to the region, they already had it, 2500 people with their entourages showing up to spend lots and lots of money, go on wine ...

4.2K swim? I'd be pissed if I were doing the whole race and the swim was long by that much! I did the whole thing and I was actually pleasantly surprised with my own swim time so hearing that it was long by 400m makes me even more happy! LOL! Congrats Kendra! I love the relay option that Challenge ...

God knows I'm as right wing capitalist Ayn Rand survival of the fittest Reaganomics as the next Calgarian, but is "money is money" the answer to everything? If Marlboro walks up with a bag full of cash to sponsor an Ironman do you take it? That's my thinking too. It doesn't sit right with...

Memorial Herman (a Texas hospital) sponsor Ironman Texas and the Texas 70.3
Money is money.
I think i'd rather have one of the Little Debbie treats vs the medical bill from Memorial Herman....

Glad that Calgary was good to you! We didn't run out of cups like Vancouver but had to throw those pesky 5k runners in for good measure.
Congrats on your race - here's to many more miles!

Congratulations Sue! That's a great accomplishment and I never had a doubt that you would get through the training and be successful at the race - your determination is very admirable! Agree on the sentiments - never say never....you realize you just jinxed yourself by writing that in your race repo...

The Gingerbread Man passed us... As expected. You can't catch that guy no matter how fast you run. He was probably making his way to Drury lane...wait that's the Muffin man. oh I digress. WDx50! Re: IRONMAN To Acquire Subaru Western Triathlon Series
Ironman has its 5150 series as well (for the Olympic distance). I suspect it was a strategy to gain some 'feet' in Canada's market as we're seeing more expansion of the WTC brand in Canada. Buy an existing race series before Challenge comes in to swoop, seems to make sense. (mind you, this doesnt' s...

They had the medal and shirt reveal last night - sounds like you might need to work on your core and back strength to wear the belt buckle.

Re: Surviving Indoor Trainer H-E-double-hockeystick
3 hrs on the trainer is not too bad - just looking back at my training log for Cozumel, looks like I did about 5 or 6 of them. Luckily was able to get outside for some other longer rides with a trip away and just sucking up and riding in cooler weather with a lot of layers. I did in that prep cycle ...

I don't use mine anymore. I go to spin class instead. But I'm not training for anything long, so I don't need to do 2-4hr indoor rides anymore. Long rides are meant to be done outdoors, even if that means layering up and dealing with slushy Gatorade! I don't know how anyone sits on an indoo...

Re: A Report on Triathlon Deaths
The rolling self-seeded start at IM Coeur d'Alene worked really well. Faster at the front, slower at the back. Kind of how they do corrals at a running race. That works for me. Only downside is when you come across someone in your age group on the road, you don't know where you stand because they m...

Thanks for all the route info! Now another question... I'm bringing carry on only, so hesitant to pack gels. Do they sell gels at race kit pickup? I.e. is it an expo type thing? If not, I've already looked up the Running Room that's closest to my hotel and am ready for the idea that they may not ha...
