Brownlee Power!

Wow  http://runningmagazine.ca/alistair-brownlee-jonathan-brownlee-world-triathlon-finale/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Feel good moment of the year! Kind of a weird sacrifice, though - he could have won the race, instead he helped his brother not with the championship...

Re: Olympic Road Races

Some of the most entertaining cycling I've ever seen... both races coming down to the wire, amazing. The dangerous descent, though - not sure that was the greatest idea, but to have a climb followed by a time-trial-like blast to the finish... well, you have to come down somehow. Sounds like everyone...

Women's 10,000m record smashed...

Wow did that look sketchy. That's being charitable... how do you destroy a record set by a doper without looking like you were ever really trying?

Re: Hills

I will be doing hills with the road bike but do you see a downside to using the hybrid bike for hills as well? Anyone is free to put in their two cents. It all helps - I flip between my 3 bikes all the time. Although the way you climb on a road bike is probably different than a hybrid - ie. when yo...

Re: Hills

I think everyone pretty much covered it, but just to add another voice to the choir - for me it's about 3 things: #1 is weight - by a mile. On the flip side I can really pull away from people on the downhills when I'm heavy! ;) #2 is momentum - carry it into the hill (but don't kill yourself). I fin...

+1... when my hamstrings are tight, I get all kinds of pain in the more aero position of the road bike. Stretch and it goes away.

Re: Tour de France 2016

If one only looks at the overall, the Tour was relatively "boring". But for me, there was some real drama with regards to the Green and King of the Mountains. The move Sagan made to "win" was amazing. And after that, I thought there were a number of great and exciting stage vict...

Re: Tour de France 2016

Dull? Yesterday was gangbusters! Sure Froome recovered after dumping it, but just him going down added to the drama, not to mention the massive battle for the rest of the podium. Today should be awesome too, so much climbing and ends with a descent - sketchy. Hoping Bardet holds on to 2nd! General c...

Re: Tour de France 2016

Every day I say "that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen" and every day something dumber happens. According to twitter, they're giving Froome back all the time he lost. Ironic that they shortened the race in the name of safety, only to create an unsafe situation. I'd rather have taken my ...

Re: Tour de France 2016

Every year I say "this is the year I'm going to watch the tour and ignore the sideshow". And then Froome punches a spectator, George Bennett runs over a guy, and the finish line attacks a bunch of riders, and I'm sucked back in. I saw the spectator get flattened, but I didn't see the othe...

Great so far! Cavendish in yellow was pretty awesome... first time for him, neat stuff. Sagan was just awesome yesterday.

Re: A "fun" question

But my pedantic and semantically contrarian side would argue that I ran a 50 K race and that fits into a category of its own. That is if one runs a marathon they do not say they also ran a 5 K, a 10 K, a half marathon race but that they ran a marathon. But if someone asked you "how many times ...

Re: How Realistic is a Marathon Negative Split?

Just for fun - I crunched the numbers (because I'm a geek that way). I had to throw out some people who didn't have split times or DNF'd, so I ended up with 1337 finishers. Of those, 60 negative split. Median finishing time for them was 3:45:13. The rest were positive splitters. Median finishing ti...
