Re: 2011 Race Plans

Ironman Canada :D I plan to race a lot as part of training for IMC, Sundays are for Z5 ;) To that end I'm planning to work in a some of the classic RM gathering races like... 21.1k @ Grimsby 5k @ ATB 21.1k @ Montreal 10k @ Sporting Life 10k or 21.1k @ Ottawa And that's all before the tri season star...

However, none of those paces represent a true measure I think, all four of those races were run with less than optimal preparation. The 5k was run in the latter stages of IM training with no speed-work; the 10k was run the day following a long brick workout; the half was run with no taper following...

Re: 10 second rule (of thumb)

No race is run under perfect conditions, in my experience. All those races could have been run in much better conditions. For example, a taper makes a big difference, in my experience. I never train for shorter races, rarely race them and the results show. I wouldn't assign any validity to my numbe...

I saw several guys pissing over upper deck of the windward side of the bridge, they had waited until reaching the far side, not at the start. I started in wave 1, Orange corral, which was the west side of the upper deck of the bridge.

I don't understand this. Does this include guaranteed entry through an International Travel Partner? If the lottery results don't come out until the end of April, does that give us time to register if we don't get in? I'm so confused. :? I would think not, those slots have already been allocated to...

Good job Dave, you ran a great race and reaped a nice result. The wait was brutal wasn't it? I ended up talking to a bunch of different people which made the time pass quicker and once the sun came up I moved to sit in it by the UPS trucks which kept me much warmer. It was good to meet you, hope we ...

On hindsight, do you think that your solid 1/2 Marathon in Niagara Falls, two weeks out, may have in(directly) affected your performance, taking into account recovery, etc. ?? And/or do you believe that your marathon training/fitness was a true indicator of a sub 3:30:xx time goal, considering your...

I thought about this report on the plane yesterday and how I would write it up. I'm writing it now and I still don't know what to write; I can not do the event justice, I don't have the ability to express in words an event that totally exceeded all my expectations in every aspect, including my own r...

Re: NYC Marathon Tracking

Wheels fell off at 23k and I decided to enjoy the event rather than try and hold on. Not unhappy, it's an awesome spectical to be a part of, I didn't care enough to the goal time to spoil my experience in what would have been a futile attempt anyway. As for why the wheels fell off so early...? That'...

Re: Heart rate training zones

The central governor theory itself doesn't say anything about whether it acts TOO SOON, IMO. It is often read that way, but that is interpretation. If we look at internal temperature, all animals have a certain temperature which will force them to STOP running no matter what. Doesn't matter if it i...
