Re: Your body lies

Experienced Maniacs out there - how much have you found you have to take off your pace for a race in heat versus more favourable race conditions? I'm looking at a 10K race Wednesday night at 6:30 PM on a day forecasted to hit 28 Celsius with a Humidex of 34. I had figured I had a minute I could take...

Re: garmin or stop watch when racing

I need a Garmin for optimal performance. I have a pretty good handle of what pace I should be at, numerically speaking, and rely on the Garmin to help me find that pace in the first K and for checks perioidcally thereafter.

There were two fatal mistakes that caused my fade…. Improvement opportunity #3 - have faith in your endurance Ron. You've read that an even pace/exertion level is the best opportunity to hit a marathon goal time and Maniacs were been reminding you in advance as well. I've read your success stories ...

Agreed. Organizations utilizing government grants need to be accountable to taxpayers.

When it comes to the three marathons under discussion here, I could not disagree more. Government spending needs to be transparent to taxpayers.

...GM is actually paying back the money early (and about to show it's first profit in 3 years!). Isn't this because GM entered bankruptcy protection as a tactic, the tactic being to bilk creditors and suppliers via paying back only cents on each dollar? If this is correct, their emergence from bank...

How is this different than throwing money at a BluesFest or a Jazz Festival? No worse...unless a market is saturated for marathons while that same market has no Music Festival. (Theoretical example) I think what bothers me is that I've seen so much advertising for the Whitby Race and its good cause...

Public Funding of Ontario Marathons

When I started running 2.25 years ago, a random thought entered my mind - if I ever run a marathon, maybe I'll tour around to the handful of Ontario marathons that exist. Then I realized the quantity of Ontario marathons. And I this year four more first year marathons popped up, bringing the total t...

Carbs the night before. Glass of OJ and/or some caffeine before running. If a long distance race, I add a couple days of carbs and make sure I'm up 2 hours+ before the race and add a couple slices of pumpernickel bread with nutella to the breakfast, which I make sure I finish two hours before race s...

My two cents..if you can find a recording of Simon Whitfield's run portion of the triathlon (especially near the finish) at the last Olympics...that gets me fired up just remembering it. Here it Whitfield's 2009 Triathlon victory with the famous fist pumping at the finish line tape: http://www.yout...

This is a stretch - clearly no one who has posted here is endorsing this assault, an assault that resulted in no serious injury and that resulted in an arrest.

Some of the jokes here were pretty clever.

Re: Higher mileage Training Plan

Have you checked out the Runners World automated plan maker? I have no idea how good/bad they are, but you can enter in what you want your weekly mileage to be and it will build around that. It might be worth at least cross-referencing for a general idea, and they also give speed work suggestions. ...
