Re: training 3000m

No need to complicate things. Just run more and focus on tempo runs and long repeats. You just need to build your endurance gradually and maintain the speed you have.
Your km time looks a bit off... Also a 7k long run and 40 miles in 6 days seems like an impossibility.

Re: Why don't female marathoners go for records like men?

They don't have men pacing women to track records. They shouldn't have them pacing them to road records.

Re: 18 y/o debuts with 2:04 in Dubai

A Marathon doesn't have to be something tacked onto the tail end of a career, nor does someone have to have multiple attempts to get it right. There have been scores of African runners recently who have had incredible performances at a very young age over the shorter distances. No reason why they ca...

Re: Teacher missing after run

The reports keep mentioning that he is known to cover up to 15 kilometers in an hour. That information likely made the original search far wider than necessary. Hardly any person does 15km at that rate unless they are elite or doing a time trial. Mr, Boucher's 16 year old daughter finished ahead of ...

Re: Teacher missing after run

I remember that Edmonton missing young man, and also the missing soldier... :( But the missing soldier, Jason Anderson, (my former neighbour) fortunately was found and returned home...so at least there was a happy ending there.. What time of year was that? I'm not familiar with that situation. It c...

Re: Teacher missing after run

Not liking how so much information has been withheld and that tweet being deleted seems odd. Starting to feel like all my running around the neighbourhood and wandering the trails is probably not the most productive way of searching. If he wasn't supposedly wearing dark clothing it seems like he'd h...

It always is the focus when it comes to raw food and veganism. They also wore Vibram five fingers so minimalism would be the next topic before any actual running was mentioned.

Re: Cadence

I was being serious. I'm not sure why this wouldn't be a realistic scenario. When you consider how delicate the average runner describes their feet and legs being in response to mileage increases, speedwork or shoe changes the tiniest subconscious difference in a stride repeated thousands of times h...

Re: Cadence

I downloaded a metronome app, I'm going to try it out. I had the app playing a constant 90 bpm and tried to have my left foot land on each beat. I was surprised at how easy it was to keep that cadence at all different speeds, (I was on the treadmill). I'm anxious to try it outside and see how I do....

Re: Cadence

One thing people overlook is that a faster pace generally results in more folding of the leg in the swing phase which makes it relatively easier to move the leg forwards since it is essentially folded in half. Since slower paced runners don't tend to bend their legs much at all they are trying to sw...

Re: Women Better Pacers?

Shows more of a difference between elite women and the rest of the female pack I would think. Women in general seem to be better at transferring their basic speed across a longer distance. I wouldn't be surprised if all those men that go out too fast don't still fizzle out relatively more even with ...

That is a long way to "fly" between every takeoff and landing EVERY step!

Proof that all the turnover in the world is useless without also taking long strides.

Re: Buzzfeed - things non-runners don't get about runners

It was a dolphin for most of the joke in order to preserve the suspense, then it became a porpose in the punchline so that the pun would work. If I'd called it an "immortal porpose" in the first line, rather than a "dolphin that lives forever", the joke suffers. The joke depends...

Re: Are colour runs are a faux-charity scam ??

Yeah, the colour race is cheesy and silly, and isn't a non-profit. I would never have run it. Except that my 13-year-old daughter asked me to run it with her. We talked the whole way, and then danced together at the end. Call me a sucker. But for that -- I'll happily slap down my $20 per entry. Was...
