Re: 8 x 400 education please

I really haven't a clue what I'm doing. Is anyone willing to hazaard a guess whether this is about the level of intensity I'll benefit most from? Should I be spending more time in a deficit? Less time maybe? I'd appreciate any comments you guys might have to offer. I've read what I can on this, but...

Yasso 800s are an invention of Runner's World staffer Bart Yasso, who has run more than 50 marathons and ultramarathons. Because of their simplicity, Yasso 800s have proven popular and useful for marathoners worldwide. Basically, Bart says that if you want to run a marathon in 2:45, 3:29 or 4:11, y...

1) The results speak for themselves so I cannot argue with success. 2) The mental aspect - practice associated thinking. http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0991.htm For me, that is spending a whole run focusing on breathing, stride length and proper form. Another thing I did was do a 3 K warm up run, d...

For some of the training yes - circuit most definitely.

For a race, no. The reason is that it may encourage dissociated thinking that can lead to a loss of focus. Ok in training, not good in a race. Plus, I want to experience everything in a race so would not like the distraction.

The Mental Aspect of Marathon Training

Ran the Calgary Marathon using an insane training schedule - intervals at 5K plus hills and stairs, tempo runs at 10K pace or faster, long runs (2 at 25 miles included) with at least 75% of the run at marathon pace or faster. The result was a Boston qualifying time, blood all over the bathroom when ...

For a marathon even splits seems to be the best strategy after starting off 10 seconds or so slower than anticipated pace. You start too fast and that seems to catch up with a lot of people in the last 10 K or so. In my last marathon I must have passed 30 - 40 people running a one minute negative sp...

Fast is fast. There is one study I read that suggested with the proper endurance training one's 30 m speed could be used to predict the finish times for any race up to and including a marathon. So speed work is the answer - 100 m strides - start slow and work your way up to about 80% of max. for 100...

I am now training for Boston so EVERY run has some hills - trying to do routes where they are early and late in the run. My only advice is concentrate on maintaining good running form - do not lean too far into the hill going up or too far back running down. One other suggestion I have read is do an...

In the Calgary Mother's Day race with 5,000 runners - 2,500 in the 5K and 2,500 in th 10K with 5,000 walkers is self seated aside from the "elite" runners. I was about 20 rows back and some small children got in front of me and I had to pass them. As I was doing that I barely missed a grandmother wh...

I read an article about the use of cholocate milk some time ago and how it was a good carb replacing strategy and have used it with success after my long runs.
