Re: Easy Thursday

Yet another rest day today though I have a massage therapy session booked for this evening. All being well, I'll try another run tomorrow. Am also booked for the SL10k but suspect it will be more of an easy run than a flat out effort. Pity, as I understand it is a pretty fast downhill course and I w...

Re: Marathon Goal Time

I also have difficulty with the shorter distances being slow compared to my marathon times though I did finally get my half marathon to "match up" last October. My 10k times are still way too slow no matter which formula I use. That's true for me as well. It's been a long time since I've ...

A very slow 2.9kms with 30 minutes of stairs thrown in for good measure. First run since Boston. :D

Re: Marathon Goal Time

I agree. Although even the +15-20 minutes is way off for me, but I'm just a sucky marathoner. :( For most people it seems to be a reasonable approximation. To bad we live so far apart....we could run together...I could pace you for marathon and get your sub 4 and you could pace me for a 1/2 (or any...

Planning to try a slow 15min or so run this evening unless DW takes me to a cocktail at a Brazilian restaurant instead.

Re: The Solar Eclipse Marathon - November 14, 2012

Hey - you are getting me all enthusiastic about this! The furthest north I have managed is Rockhampton and Great Keppel Island many years ago so maybe it is time to venture further afield. :o  I sure hope so! It would be awesome if you had the chance to do the race and see you family in ...

Re: The Solar Eclipse Marathon - November 14, 2012

Mmmm! That's a thought. My sons live in Sydney and they have talked about going to Queensland to see the eclipse. While they would never run the (half) marathon, I could be tempted! Ooh, sounds like a good excuse to go visit your boys! I loved Far North Queensland - it was my favourite area...

That's an impressive performance on so little training and after going out so fast. I suspect you will do a whole lot better in three weeks time though, like you, I am a bit concerned about the number of runners.

Re: Boston - A "Perfect" Storm

Thanks again everybody - I really appreciate your comments. With the value of almost a week's hindsight, I am now really glad that I did the race despite all the problems. I am now focusing on getting my hamstring better so that I can get back to running soon. My next race is the Sporting Life 10k a...

Did 30 minutes of stair climbs today as this doesn't bother my hamstring. It was hard work but it sure felt great to be doing something positive. :D

No running yet but 90 minutes of massage therapy on my hamstring. With a bit of luck I can try running again sometime later next week . Here's hoping.

Re: Boston - A "Perfect" Storm

Thanks for the very nice comments everybody. While I was really glad to get to the finish line on Monday, I am now very glad I did the race despite everything - it was definitely the right decision for me. I will now focus on getting over that injury and then decide what next. Unfortunately I really...

Re: Another Marathon...opinons...

Interesting discussion with lots of valid points. If I were able to run ok, I would also be tempted to have another go at the full distance though would probably lean towards Ottawa rather than Toronto / Mississauga. The later option is just to get in a bit more recovery time and also to fit in one ...

Boston - A "Perfect" Storm

It's now a couple of days after I run Boston for the second time and I have to admit I still have some very mixed emotions about the whole experience. Up to three weeks ago, I was putting in a much higher volume of training - most weeks over 100kms - than I had ever managed or even tried before. Des...

Re: Boston is an "experience" (photo link added)

Serious congratulations on achieving a negative split on a really hot day. Honestly, that is way beyond impressive and I have no idea how you did that as the conditions were really tough. I don't think I ran a negative split, just felt a little better in the 2nd half (most of it). Yes - you are rig...
