Re: It's kinda fun doing the impossible - Ironboy goes Goofy

Thanks guys!

I still can't believe I actually did those push ups.

I saw him again during the full and I told him "no push ups this time" he said: "I wouldn't ask you to"!

It definitely was a challenge. What resort were you at. At Port Orleans Riverside I was able to "sleep in" until just after 3:00am!

It's kinda fun doing the impossible - Ironboy goes Goofy

My Superboy costume was the best 60 bucks I ever spent. Turning 42 this year, I wanted to run a marathon close to my birthday, but that really didn't work out. So as it happens, the Walt Disney World Marathon fell 4 days after I turned 42.2. This had to be a sign. When Irongirl gave the go ahead to ...

Re: Re: Proper form for Squats

My question is, if your doing all these squats for quad strength, what exercise should one be doing for hamstrings? Squats are a glute and hamstring exercise more than a quad exercise. According to exrx , the main target for squats is the glutes with quads as one of the "synergists". Hams...

Re: Proper form for Squats

Inspired by this challenge I have started doing them but not every day- I'm wondering though- is there as much value in doing the high reps every day vs, say, lower reps with more resistance? Body weight squats are good for developing your mobility to ensure better form when you start weight-bearing.

Re: jackets?

We should do a poll. A- WIndblock B- Podium C- Either. I would be either. I just got a Sugoi Zap shell running jacket (in Orange no less), that I love for running. So now all I really want is a RunningMania jacket, I don't care which model. I don't mean this the be the poll, I mean Holly should star...

Re: Big, Fast, Strong

I do suspect however that strength is underestimated as a contributing factor of strong runners.

It is rarely measured, so hard to quantify, but I believe most fast runners are stronger than they think.

That's a myth, done properly deep squats aren't as hard on the knees as those half squats.

ETA: for people with noramal knees that aren't missing cartilage!

Re: Re: Proper form for Squats

Put your hands behind your head (like a crunch) to help keep you upright. Ooo, just saw this. We call them prisoner squats, harder to go deep, but definitely keeps you honest! Yes, they are prisoner squats, didn't feel the need to label them though. Good to know is not a weird " Crossfit name&...

Re: Proper form for Squats

Joe Dwarf's link (the first three steps) are good. Jwolf's not so good. You should definitely be aiming to break parallel, unless you mobility is limited. Don't sacrifice you upright posture for deeper squat, that will come with time. MiniTee's advice is very sound. - As you push back with your butt...

Re: What can you tell me about minimalist shoes?

I've been doing the minimalist thing for a long time now. I've run in New Balance Minimus, Mizuno Wave Ronin, Mizuno Wave Universe, and Vibram Five Fingers. My favorites by far are the Wave Universe and the Five Fingers. Mizuno is coming out with a whole new line of minimalist shoes (Wave Evo) which...
