Re: Nutrition and depression
There are some ties to wheat/gluten and sugar (just trying to find the links/articles I was thinking about) but they aren't researched very well. Re: Ooops ... Marathon win a surprise
You want to make hard fast rules that will remain unbroken and unbent, have your own race, then you can make the decision you want to stand by. Really? Don't I have some expectation that the RD will enforce the rules on the people I'm racing against? Friend of mine did a half a couple of years back...

Re: Ooops ... Marathon win a surprise
Again I congratulate the women for running such a great time. I think the RD erred in his judgement call. I would guess he is a non-runner or at least not a marathoner. But letting this happen, what is to stop more RD's from changing the rules more than halfway through their marathons. It might be ...

Re: Bike stolen at the "The Canadian" in Ottawa
Two bikes stolen at the Lifetime Fitness Tempe Arizona triathlon on the weekend. Is this a trend? I looked into our insurance coverage and we cannot find an insurance company willing to cover us for bike theft at an increased premium or rider. After a couple of meetings we are anticipating setting ...

Re: Eating breakfast doesn't help against obesity
The problem "I see" on a daily basis interacting with people and discussing how they eat, is that the breakfast eaters eat well through the day. The "non" breakfast eaters tend to go far too long without eating and binge on crap through the day. Not at all scientific, just a gen...

Re: Diana Nyad finishes her epic Cuba to Florida swim
I don't think Diana Nyad swam from Cuba to Florida because it had sharks and box jellyfish. She swam it because of the challenge to her. The sharks and jellyfish were a byproduct that I'm sure she would have loved to not have had to deal with. RE: protective gear: I wear a helmet when I bike to pro...

Dstew I fail to see how some else's accomplishment and/or goal has such a profound response from someone that neither could do it, or cares to do it. Chalk it up to "good for her, not for me" and leave it at that. This. X 10^6 Yep...there's lot of stuff that people do that I don't underst...

Pin on tri shorts already for some unknowen reason. Stupid question but would I look like a total knob if I put my bike shorts on over my tri shorts in transition for the bike?? Then remove them in T2? Just can not think I will make 94k without nerve damage... and I am sure I will lose the race som...

OMG.. the too much make up picture made me laugh.
There was a woman I used to run with in the half group (gawd.. 7 years ago) who kept a lipstick in her shorts/tights pocket to reapply before the finish line.

Re: Bike Shop Advice
Ditto on most of what has been said already. Just because you buy your bike somewhere doesn't necessarily mean you are tied there for the time you have your bike. In London there are about a half dozen bike shops, all with different sales and service reputations. We have people drive up to 2 hours f...

Re: tell me about Ellipticals
Walk away quickly....
If you are prone to tight hips and hip flexors the eliptical will crank those up like guitar strings! While it may be low/no impact, the shortened stride of basically all home (and most gym) machines is what causes the hips to tighten up.

Re: Sport Doc ITBS or Menicus
It is definitely linked to weak glute (specifically med and min at the top of your butt) as opposed to ITBand issues. Everything listed exercise wise has been spot on, I would add a couple of more glute activated items to that as well. http://www.exrx.net/Muscles/GluteusMedius.html" onclick="window....

Re: Altra Shoe Warning
Any major shoe transition will take a lot longer than a week, especially post marathon.
There are well documented protocols for that transition, and it certainly isn't multiple 10K runs first week or two out.
Can't really blame the shoe in this case.

I haven't tried them but K did a 24 hour race in Ohio last year using Skratch labs and is hooked. The few people I know who have tried it love it.
I am planning to order their cookbooks, they do these awesome "packs" for riding and endurance events that are made from real food..

While I personally have never had a tick bite, one of my best friends did contract lyme disease via a tick on a walk with her dog. I would not wish it on my worst enemy. Re: Running off the bike
I am with Mark on this one... To start, simple 5 minutes out, 5 minutes back. It's a hard feeling to get used to, and that's why they call it a brick. Slowly build from there. And you don't need to go "long". I think the longest run off a bike from my half IM training was maybe 30-45 minut...
