Re: Endurance advice
My advice is to get a heart rate monitor. Figure out what your resting and maximum heart rates are (by doing an exhaustion test, rather than 220-age) and determine your zones from there. You may find that you've been running too fast on all your runs (which sabotages your training). But on the othe...

Re: Stampie gets it done at the Birch Bay 30K
Great race! Isn't that downhill after the turn-around nice? Your training has been really strong- looking forward to May 1!! Thanks! That downhill after the turn-around is indeed nice! I really did not find it that bad to the turn-around when I was getting there, but on the way back I certainly not...

Stampie gets it done at the Birch Bay 30K
What a day on Saturday, on many levels! It was a bright and sunny day, with perfect conditions for racing. It was about 8C at the start and warned up to about 14-15C by the end of the race, with a nice breeze. I got a drive with one of my fellow clinic leaders to Birch Bay, who had picked up another...

8.5K done on the Seawall this morning before work, while watching Vancouver wake-up. I'll never get tired of that view first thing in the morning as the sun come up here.

Re: Wearing Green Thursday
5.5 k of track intervals, I was fairly low energy so didn't push the pace too much. We had to stick to the outside lanes as Stampies crew was hogging the track  jk - it was great seeing him. It was nice still having daylight when we finished at 7. I will probably be less happy dark and early S...

Happy St. Paddy's Day!
An easy 8K done on the seawall thru Stanley Park as Vancouver woke-up from its slumber.
Track workout later today, because one run was not sufficient!

Re: long runs + low carb?
I have a co-worker who used to do ultras, along with a lot of trail running and he swears by the salted boiled potatoes. He agrees they are just bland, but he found them easier to stomach when he got into the higher distances. Interesting you bring up those baby food pouches La. One of my clinic par...

First time I've posted in the daily thread in a loooong time!
An easy 8.1K done this morning before work in and around the seawall in Stanley Park before the rain started in YVR. Sadly I may not fare as well on my LSD on Sunday! C'est la vie!

Re: long runs + low carb?
Do you have any flexibility with your free day? Would you be able to move it prior to your scheduled Long run? What about increasing your fat content? Allowing your body to fuel itself that way? To me, I don't see the total harm in the use of gels during your long runs. Those tend to be quick carbs ...

Re: Saucony Triumph ISO . . .
I love my Nimbus way way more I'm not sure I would say the same. Don't get me wrong, I like my Nimbus as well, but I do find them heavy when you get into the longer in duration runs. They are a nice cushy ride, but I’ve raced in them a few times and found them to be somewhat heavy later in a half a...

Re: Saucony Triumph ISO . . .
Thanks for the update; I’m just now starting to break-in my ISO's I got last year. Long story short... I get shoes as compensation for leading half clinics at the store I deal with. I got the ISO compliments of the store & Saucony last year, as they sponsored my clinic. I already had a new pair ...

Re: latest gps faves?
My Forerunner 25 has been behaving better recently. I still have no clue as to how to get it to do auto laps at 1km intervals. I have it set to metric and it gives me all my times in minutes/seconds per km. However, it does laps at 1.61km (i.e. per mile) intervals. I called Garmin support and they ...

Re: latest gps faves?
My friend has the Garmin 410 and just recently got a newer one. I'm not sure, it maybe the 610. I could ask him what he's doing with the 410 if you like. I've been happy w/ my 410 in the trails. Once the GPS connects, I usually don't loose the connection and the distance seems to be pretty. accurate...

Not much more I can say, then what I said in my text to you yesterday. I'm so happy for you! What a great report and an exceptional race on Sunday. At about 3K I made the decision to slow up and let the four hour group go. Right there is the moment you BQ'd. I concur with Mark here; this was the mom...

Men's marathon: 2:12:50! This is 80 seconds slower than 2012, so Reid Coolsaet's recent 2:11:24 is clear. At this pace, it may not just be a simple yes/no for Reid, Eric Gillis, and Dylan Wykes, but perhaps a top-3 race unfolds involving the likes of Rob Watson (2:13:29 PB), Kip Kangogo (2:15:35 PB...

I'm heading up to Squamish to run the MEC event up there this morning. I'm registered for the 5K event, but will be looking to switch to the 10k if I can. So I was able to switch to the 10K with ease. That race was an absolute blast. But I do admit to maybe complaining slightly at the start. OK a l...

Jennifer posed a question to me via text earlier today, that I feel is a fair question and I wish to address it here. I hope she is ok with that. ;) I didn't realize until I read your report that our paces throughout the race were so similar. Curious why your goal paced were to get slower as the rac...
