Scotia Half
After a very disappointing Army Half, hampered by illness, I was determinated to get a result I would be relatively happy with. I've had a strong training cycle and knew I had a significant improvement in me if things worked out well. I took a week off after the Army Half, then got in some quality r...

Re: Eating breakfast doesn't help against obesity
Fat mobilizes in the absence of insulin. Fat is stored in the presence of insulin. Eating dietary fat, protein and high fibre carbohydrates result in no insulin production or very little insulin production. Easting processed sugars and grain results very high insulin production. Calories in = calor...

Re: After the 2013 fiasco, SportingLife 10K replaces RD!
http://run.sportinglife10k.ca/sites/default/files/2014pressrelease.pdf This was the only possible outcome that would convince me to give it another try. Based on last year I will never run a Glassman race again. I will still await more details about the race, but I think I will at least consider it...

Congrats on a great race!!
Your boyfriend's struggle with cancer certainly puts it all into perspective though. Those of us able to run (and bike and swim, or whatever our activity of choice is) are so blessed to be able to do what we do.

Re: Bike stolen at the "The Canadian" in Ottawa
Rob, talk to John Salt @MSC. They implemented (and quickly) a bracelet system for the last couple of races after The Canadian issue. I worked security the Sunday morning of the Olympic in Lakeside, and it went pretty smoothly. Fencing changes are also a consideration, they put in a 6ft fence at Was...

Re: Ooops ... Marathon win a surprise
You want to make hard fast rules that will remain unbroken and unbent, have your own race, then you can make the decision you want to stand by. Really? Don't I have some expectation that the RD will enforce the rules on the people I'm racing against? Friend of mine did a half a couple of years back...

Nice meeting you today Andy.
Myself, the Mes and likely the kids will be there around 12:30 tomorrow.
Both of us have been feeling under the weather for a couple of days, so not quite sure what's going to happen tomorrow.

My favourite quote rgarding ideal race weight comes from Slowman on Slowtwitch: "the trick is to keep losing weight until your friends and family ask you if you've been sick. then you know you're within 10 pounds. if they start whispering to each other, wondering if you've got cancer or aids, y...

Get to the mount line, do a flying mount and off we go… [...] Get my feet out of my shoes, ready for the dismount line. Leg over, brakes and step off, running into transition on bare feet…. With skills like that, clearly you are sandbagging it at the Give-it-a-Tri distance. Time to move up to the S...

Raced my third Give-it-a-Tri this past weekend. This will be my last multisport event this year. This year was my first foray into multisport and I am greatly enjoying it. 400m swim - 10k bike - 2.5k run Even was held at a little "resort" north of Woodstock and turned out to be a great ven...
