Re: Marathon Weekend in Toronto/Mississauga

Happy racing everyone & speedy vibes for those chasing BQ times. Run strong. You've got this :). Don't fret about the wind. I've run TO twice. Both days were windy & it didn't impact my time. Just tuck yourself into a pack & take turns fighting the wind. TO is an awesome course - very fa...

Replacing belt on treadmill

I think it's time for a belt replacement on my TM. Has anyone ever had to do this? If so, how did you know it needed to be done? My TM is 5 years old and gets quite a bit of use for 6 months of the year!

Re: Winter Maintenance . . .

Sounds like you've set up a good maintenance plan. Breaks from the regular routine are always welcomed in my running world - good for the body & mind. I usually take my break in Nov & Dec - the end of marathon/racing season. January is usually the start of a new marathon build. My approach i...

I was lucky to participate in the CTRR a few years ago - it was, no doubt, the most fun I've had in a running race! And the Cabot Trail is breathtakingly beautiful. I hope you get in. Fingers crossed for you :).

Re: Peanut Free Energy Bars

Found some, if you are ever in need. Simply Protein bar makes a peanut free kid's version. They're smaller w/ just 4g of protein but you could eat more to get the protein you want :). I found them at our Superstore (Loblaws).

Peanut Free Energy Bars

Any suggestions? I'm looking for alternatives for my daughter to eat before/during swim meets. She loves Cliff Bars but most meets have peanut free policies.

Count me in, too. I could use some external motivation to get me out in the chilly early mornings! I did 5 miles this morning - around 43 minutes.

Great, strong race, Jocelyn - a perfect confidence boost for your 70.3. Your hard training is obviously paying off :). I wouldn't read too much into your run. Heat's tough - especially this time of year when our bodies aren't quite used to it again. Congrats & enjoy the final weeks of your train...

WOW! That's a massive PB Jesse!!! I was thinking about you yesterday. I knew you were set for something big :). Don't give that BQ another thought; bask in those 14 minutes you shaved off. You'll get it - and then some - next time around. Now that you know how fast you can go, it'll be that much eas...

For me on this chilly & windy Saturday morning: a 2 hr ride w/ an organized cycling group - 9 riders in total - for the 1st time. We were on a busy road riding out of town but most of the ride was on some fairly quiet, country roads. I learned a lot, had fun, felt safe, felt like a cyclist :), a...

Beautiful day here - sunny & 20 degrees. We always skip spring on PEI. It was a chilly 4 degrees on Wednesday & now it feels like summer. I just packed the winter gear away last night! I went out for a hilly 35km ride - nice & early in hopes of finding quiet roads - followed by a 10k run...

A long run! 26K slowly done. Big day for Canadian marathoning: Krista Duchene & Reid Coolsaet ran (what should prove to be) Olympic qualifying times in Rotterdam. Let's hope… I wouldn't put it past Athletics Canada to tighten the times even further "in pursuit of excellence", in which...

I was up and already out running - out the door at 5:45 (ugh!). 32 km done - I had to be back for 9, so DH and DD could go to rugby practice, so I started early, ran over to my friend's place to pick her up at 7.5 km, then the two of us ran and picked up a third friend who is training for the half,...

My schedule had a tempo on it for today - 2 x 4 km with the first set at marathon pace and the second at half pace. I thought about sticking to the TM so I'd be sure to hit the paces, but the sunshine called my name and I decided to head out with the stroller and use PE instead of pace. Well, shock...

I think I used to start at 5k pace and work my way down. If I do it this week, I'll probably do 5 repeats @ 5k pace and 5 faster than 5k.

Re: Virtual Workout--THURSDAYS....

I did 400m rec rather a timed one (probably about 2 minutes). I didn't bother w/ a longer rec between sets. My pace was progressive, working from 10k to 5k - I changed it after each set of 2. Because I did this one last week, I'll do something on my own this week - maybe just a long tempo @ a steady...
