Re: What is your average speed?

I think its fine to compare yourself to others as long as you're comparing yourself to the right people. As far as average speed goes, that's a different story. How far are we running today, 5k or 30k? What's the goal, endurance or tempo or speed? Are we racing? Hills? My average speed is anywhere b...

Re: Sad story

Carrie lost her **** with me a while back when she found out I'd been running all over New York City and Tokyo with no ID whatsoever. Something about being buried in the Japanese equivalent of a potters field. Anyway, I'm ordering a new Road ID. I think I left my old one attached to an old pair of s...

Re: Not another one...?

But we like Clara Hughes, she is inspirational and she is Canadian. That is the difference. I tend to agree. We loved Silken Laumann, too. And Ben Johnson for 9.79 seconds. Love to hear an explanation of the silent acceptance of the silent sanction. Odd passive acceptance. So what we need is a hier...

Re: Not another one...?

Well legally the difference is intent. So? I understand the legal difference. I understand the difference between murder and manslaughter. I don't know what that has to do with doping - particularly if you believe (which I do) that the athlete is responsible for everything that goes into their body...

Maybe a better alternative is to say its not necessary or desirable to prevent and detect every possible instance of cheating at every race.

Re: no more ice and Ibu?

And a lot of life is about counteracting our bodies responses when its not convenient for our lives. My body is telling me this morning that I need to get some more sleep and I'm responding with coffee, not sleep. Later on I may take a headache pill instead of going home to bed. Exactly. And athlet...

Re: no more ice and Ibu?

I love this quote - always thought it odd that we'd try suppress the body's natural response... Editor in Chief of The Physician and Sports Medicine Journal (Dr. Nick DiNubile) once posed this question: “Seriously, do you honestly believe that your body’s natural inflammatory response is a mistake?...

Re: Today is Tuesday

Part of my running comeback is to be more defiant. Today it was "f*** you, thick cloud of smoke hanging over Calgary". I ended up with a decent 4-5k run, first time I've run two days in a row in forever. Plus I inadvertently drew a dick, so I've got that going for me.

What are the units? Metres? Minutes?

(Its Ian's workout so 'metres' is not crazy)

You start scouring her social media postings, I'll get the pitchforks.

ETA: as an aside, when I read this I got "Ironman Canada" and "Challenge Penticton" mixed up in my head and wondered why she was disqualified five days before the race.

When I'm setting out on a workout, how do I set the kind of workout before I start? In my app it defaults to "run", but most of my workouts are either a walk (I walk at least an hour a night with the dog) or a bike ride. I assume you have the most recent version of the Strava iPhone app--...

let me just say this - the Strava flyby feature is perhaps the most amazing thing I've ever seen. The BOB I had had a fixed front wheel and (once I got it tracking straight) I never used it in anything but the fixed position. Chariot I think they killed the Running Room one because it was the only one in their product line that could only be used for running, they focused exclusively on multi-pu...

We stopped doing depletion runs and carbo-loading, we stopped breaking records. We claim to know more than we used to, but we're actually running slower.

$100,000 if he runs a 3:11:45 man I'd be doing some heavy trainiopportunityif he runs a 3:25 or a variety of other times for shorter distances....
