Re: Why are rich people drawn to endurance sports?
I don't think it is about the pursuit of pain. I think it is time and money availability; plus I didn't work with my body all day. Of course it is. It provides an artificial and additional sense of meaning and purpose on top of the objectivity of a race result. Would you possibly be able to admit t...

Re: Four things the fitness industry can stop arguing over
James Fell is so sensible-- so much truth in what he says here! I have gotten back on the calorie-tracking train, because for me it helps me be mindful of my food choices. But I know there are HUGE amounts of error in the calories given for different foods. I know my tracking isn't perfect, but it's...

Long weekend Sunday
With Habs away, we have missed the daily thread a few times! We miss you, Habs.
Today I did 75 minutes of cardio at the gym: 30 min on elliptical then 45 spin bike. I have finished week 3 of my non-running recovery period.
What's up for everyone else on this long weekend?

Re: Why are rich people drawn to endurance sports?
Some interesting ideas in the article, but the statistics are very non-scientific. ...nearly 75 percent of runners earn more than $50,000, and about 85 percent work in white-collar, service, or educational settings. A 2013 report published by USA Cycling shows much the same: More than 60 percent of ...

60 min on elliptical- and I didn't hate it this time. Figured out the most comfortable incline and actually got in a decent workout.

Ragnar Relay runner needed - July 14-15 in Washington state
I am on a Ragnar Relay team doing the Northwest Passage relay in northern Washington state (July 14-15). One of our runners has had to bail with less than two weeks to go-- I'm putting it out there if anyone is interested or knows anyone. We start in Blaine, WA (right across the border), and the rac...

Re: Favourite Apps for running, health, etc?
I primarily use Garmin Connect which syncs from my watch by Bluetooth. It also automatically syncs with Strava, but I have to admit I don't really look at Strava that often. It is used in some of my other running groups, but I find it too hard to keep up with everyone! I will also use Strava to trac...

So happy that it worked out so well for you!! I'm sorry I couldn't be there to see you finish, but it was great to be with you for the rest of the weekend. When I was finishing the half, I couldn't figure out how the 9k mark of your race was 100-200m BEFORE the 42k mark of the marathon when it shoul...

Yay! I'm almost ready to go.
I actually did a short shake-out run (2 miles) this morning. It's gorgeous out and I couldn't resist.
Looking forward to seeing the gang soon.

So far in this thread we've had three people offer to contribute to blogs (Jwolf, avis, and daddy_runner). Are you all still game for that? It doesn't have to be on a strict schedule, whatever you can commit to. For Dale's, maybe what we could do is tweet and discuss what you're already blogging in...

Re: Nike Marathon sub 2 hour marathon attempt
A really good summary: http://sportsscientists.com/2017/05/eliud-kipchoge-20025/ TLDR version: What does this mean for the prospects of a legitimate sub-2 hour marathon? I think all the tactics that Nike threw at the runners today are probably worth 90 seconds to two minutes (this is an estimate, ho...

Yes! Very cool. And they did those switches like a well-oiled machine. All of those pacers are also world-class runners.

Re: Nike Marathon sub 2 hour marathon attempt
I stayed up to watch this last night and I'm glad I did. It was quite amazing to watch. Eliud Kipchoge made history early this morning, running 42.2K in 2:00:24. He missed the sub-2:00 by 25 seconds (which is actually quite a lot in a marathon!), but that doesn't take away from the the extraordinary...

When I try to log in with runningmania.com as the username, it says the username doesn't exist.
