Re: Montreal marathon cancelled...

This was my favourite overblown news feature related to the Montreal Marathon. "Runners flock to Rimouski after Montreal marathon cancelled over heat concerns" The registration for the Rimouski Marathon saw a "surge" in registration as Montreal marathoners looked for a replaceme...

Re: The Even Darker Side... Adventure Racing!

So I was asked to be on a team for wilderness traverse.. we are completely unmatched. Will I See you there? No. No you won't. I spoke with someone after Rockstar about it, he did it... sounds pretty wild (metaphorically and literally). But make sure you tell us allll about it! We did the Musk...

Re: Montreal marathon cancelled...

How'd it go?? I went for a 15k run early morning thinking I'd beat the heat - I didn't. Even at +18C in the a.m. sun it was so hot, steamy. Was thinking of y'all. :)

Re: Montreal marathon cancelled...

Toronto Waterfront Marathon used to be end of September... they had some gross hot sticky ones before they moved to the old Toronto Marathon timeslot (late October).

It's a risky time of year for a marathon in these parts.

Re: Montreal marathon cancelled...

For people who are traveling to the event, they'd want to be notified ASAP while there's still time to change their travel plans. Remember what happened in NYC in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy when they waited until late Friday to cancel (and everyone had already traveled to NYC). There are worse thin...

Hot weather. 1/2 is still a go. https://runningmagazine.ca/hot-humid-weather-approaching-montreal-marathon-gets-cancelled/ "Marathon runners will have the option of running the half-marathon, transferring to another open Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event or receiving a registration refund&quo...

Re: Shoe Lace Tying... Whaaaat

Tightening up my shoes helped, even without fancy laces. I like loose shoes but I guess for downhill it isn't the right way to go. :?

Re: Shoe Lace Tying... Whaaaat

Do people really tie their shoes that tightly? I like to wear mine loosely, leaving just enough lace to tie double knots. If I don't do the heal lock I often get blisters because my heels slip up and down. I got around that by using double-layer socks... I like my laces loose, otherwise I seem to g...

Re: Banff Trail Running - any suggestions?

I did the Sulphur Mountain loop. It was tough. I ran maaaaybe 15% of it on the way up, rest was a fast hiking pace. The way down killed my quads, couldn't believe how hard that was actually! But it was beautiful and cool. Oh and by cool I mean literally cool - there was ice on the walkways at the t...

Re: Shoe Lace Tying... Whaaaat

I've only ever had problems on trails (with the steep hills/etc), and mostly I just let my toenails go to toenail heaven and shrug it off...

... but I'm doing a 50k this fall, and that seems like a bad strategy.

I'll have to try it next run.

Shoe Lace Tying... Whaaaat

My toes were hammering against the front of my shoe on trail runs (downhill!), found this on the internets claiming to fix that problem! https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=n3Du71GEH6s Anyone try this? Long story short: you use the extra holes at the top of the shoe to make crazy loo...

Re: Why are rich people drawn to endurance sports?

The white collar point is more interesting. Maybe the correlation is that white collar workers have more time to partake in sports? Maybe they work more regular hours? Maybe they have steady schedules? Weekends off? Maybe that type of employment is just more conducive to being able to schedule regu...

Re: Why are rich people drawn to endurance sports?

I don't think it is about the pursuit of pain. I think it is time and money availability; plus I didn't work with my body all day. Of course it is. It provides an artificial and additional sense of meaning and purpose on top of the objectivity of a race result. Would you possibly be able to admit t...

Re: Why are rich people drawn to endurance sports?

I was drawn to running to lose weight. That's it. I stuck with it because I was seeing results. After a while, I realized that I enjoyed it so I still do it Weight loss for me too originally. I'm not sure how my income factored into it... maybe if I was lower income I'd have other more pressing con...

Re: Banff Trail Running - any suggestions?

Sulfur Mtn is more of a hike rather than a run from what I recall. It is doable as a run, but I would suggested arriving early as it can get rather crowed & busy on the trail. There were some good trails to mtn bike on that were off the access road to the Banff Springs Hotel Golf Course and the...

I mountain biked in Canmore a few years ago - it was really awesome, took some pics, blogged: http://www.marshmallowman2ironman.com/2013/08/mountain-biking-at-canmore-nordic-centre.html I didn't fully appreciate the bear risk at the time so foolishly took a pass on the bear spray... $5 to rent, real...

That seems to be a problem everywhere... we have a handful in Ontario and we're lucky we have Storm Racing, otherwise it'd be similarly niche.
