Ultra Trial Harricana 65K
That was quite a race! This past weekend I headed to La Mablbaie QC with my father and son for the UT Harricana 65K. My goal for the past few years had been to run in the Boston Marathon, and then I really wanted to be able to focus more on trails, so when I got my confirmation last fall about getti...

Sore Monday
Good morning all!
I'm taking a couple of days of rest. I ran in the UT Harricana 65k on Saturday and I need a few days of recovery before I run again.

Re: Tempo Thursday
Wasn't too bad when I was out at 5am. Headed up to my regular trails to do a mini simulation of next week's race- steady pace on the flats, fast on the downhills, and power hiking the uphills. 11km in total.

Back at it Tuesday
So, back to work after a long weekend............. Also, back to running after 4 days of not running- we spent the weekend camping on a little island, and I couldn't be bothered to paddle back to the mainland to do any runs. Felt so good to totally turn off for a few days. 10.5km this morning on roa...

Re: Headlamp/Lighting
I'm a regular early morning runner, so my trail runs are in the dark for about 9 months of the year. I have a Petzl Tikka 2, which I find not nearly bright enough. I use a Cree headlamp- you can get them cheap on ebay, it's ridiculously bright, and the rechargable battery has a long life (I get 6-8 ...

Good morning all!
Not sure why, but I was feeling really dozy this morning. Had a hard time getting moving.
Headed up to the trails at my local conservation area for short, hard hill repeats.

It was a steamy run this morning- 19° & 100% humidity at 5am- I was dripping with sweat when I got home.

Re: New to forum and question about improving 10k speed
That's good advice from Jennifer. My advice is definitely along the same lines- don't try to go faster all the time! Easy days are super important, and if you always go hard, you'll be at a high risk for injury. I really like doing 2 speed sessions a week- 1 of the days is hard, short intervals (I u...

Cool Tuesday
Good morning all!
It's a lovely sunny & cool morning here in Ontario- 11° when I headed out to run at 5am.
Went up to my regular trails this morning- did hill repeats on a rutted & rooty trail, then a hard 10 minute effort off the top of the last hill climb.

Re: Supermoon Monday
Super bright and big moon here too. Days are definitley getting shorter- I'm back to heading out in pitch black for my morning run. Headed up to my regular trails, and found that the batteries in my headlamp were almost dead, so I tried carefully not to kill myself. After I tripped over a root and f...

What was the camping like?
The campground was quite nice- lots of tree cover, and very hilly. One thing to note- there are several campsites that are dual sites (like a mini group site)- stay away from those. We were beside one and it was LOUD!

Conconheague 50K- my first Ultra!
So we're back at home now after being away for the past week, and I finally have time to write up a report. Last Saturday I ran my my first 50K- it was a trail race that I found to coincide with a visit to my in-laws in South Central Pennsylvania. Going into the race, I wasn't entirely sure how it w...

Re: Steamy Saturday . . .
Ran my first 50K while down visiting my in laws in PA. Great, but tough course. 5000 feet of climbing, and sections of unrunnable rock hopping. Looooonnnnggggg climbs- some of them lasting 45 mins. Finished in just under 7 hours, which was good for 2nd place. ^:)^ really....which one was it?...
